Rumors that Toyota will market its Subaru co-developed rear-wheel-drive coupe as a Scion in America have been swirling around the net ever since the two Japanese automakers made their plans official this spring. But now we've received word that it's true. According to our inside source, Toyota officials in the U.S. confirmed that the affordable RWD coupe will indeed arrive in the States in late-2010 / early-2011 as the new Scion TC. Further details weren't provided but from what we know up until now, both the Toyota / Scion and Subaru variants of the two-seater compact coupe will get an all-new platform with power coming from a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine producing around 200HP.
Toyota officials also told our source that the iQ minicar will be heading to the States as the latest addition to the Scion line-up. Even though it is apparent that the iQ and the RWD TC will target a different segment of the young or young-at-heart audience, company officials are certain that both vehicles will do their part to spice-up the Scion brand's youthful / hip image.

watch out for those kids who dont know how to drive RWD well on the rain... with that much power and all these D1 influence in their blood can sometimes equals to not good. on another note: if this really goes through, i might just get this instead of keeping my tc.

I am actually planning to pick up the tc in summer of '09, but i actually wouldn't mind waiting for the next gen one UNLESS it's a 2 seater.
Anyone think it's worth it to wait? If i do decide to wait, I won't be able to pick up a 1st gen tc ;/!

When i first heard about the Toyota/Subaru matchup, i was very pleased. It's about time Toyota/Scion does SOMETHING with RWD and two doors. If anyone wants to make a determination about this car from that picture should just sit tight and see what really comes out. I have a feeling that this car is going to turn more heads on the street and on the track than people think.
2-door and RWD FTW
I Toyota/Scion/Subaru for this!
Lets not forget that when we bought our TC's, we were buying 2-door, 4 seat, FWD, >160hp cars! Not that it's a bad thing but give this one a chance. Might be a bargain RWD 200hp car but with a turbo kit and suspension mods, you would all be saying, "I love my [TC/Subaru] or whatever the hell they call it."
