TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) will push back the North American launch of its new Corolla from 2007 to 2008 in order to maintain quality, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) reported on Saturday.

Toyota, Japan's top auto maker, has been plagued this year by a rising number of vehicle recalls. In July, it recalled some 400,000 SUVs in the United States, its single-biggest market.

Sales of the remodeled Corolla are set to start in Japan next week, and the company had hoped to cut the gap between domestic and overseas releases to one year from the usual two, the Nikkei said.

Instead, the company has decided to prioritize quality and start sales more gradually, the paper added.

Good! Becuz my experiences with Toyota's quality has been dissapointing as of lately. They needed to get back on track in terms of how they used to be in quality. They've kinda out-grown their own pants while trying to pass GM and Ford.

There have been pics of the Auris concept which is supposed to be based on the next Corolla. It has a lot of the look of the Yaris:

i hope it's not the dl...

it would have been a good candidate if the yaris wasn't released as a toyota...

IMO they look too similar for it to be labled a Scion as opposed to a toyota...

That interior looks awesome...honestly if the corolla turns out looking a lil like the yaris....that won't bother me, I like the styling of the yaris..if it only were a tad bigger.

The current model has been around "just right". Toyota almost always let a certain model run for 5 years. The current Corolla started in 03.

If you need to count with your fingers, that's: 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 = 5 years.

If they're going to launch the car, early 08, then it's still an 08 model, just in time.

I'm curious to see what options are going to be added/deleted from the Corolla line. With Scion already selling more loaded than the LE and S models for less money, I'll be there are going to be some neat changes.

The only model that Scions are stealing sales from Toyota are the x series. Yaris will have to compete with the xa and xb.

However, with the Celica pushing daisies... the tC is the ONLY one in Toyota's lineup with no in house competition. The Solara isn't really a competitor since it's a much larger car.

To be honest, I'd rather go for a Yaris than any of the x series. It's just a much nicer car IMO. Btw, the Yaris only comes in 3 or 4 doors, something the x series doesn't have. So those wanting a 4 door sedan, Scion doesn't offer one.

I would also rather get a Corolla than the X series. I'm not too fond of the castrated engines in the xs.

Good point. I should have been more specific! tC is in a world of its own
