noodle to answer your question :

yes same setup different connectors. stock harness guage wiring cant handle that much wattage during intial start. hid wattage is usally around 75 watts and a stock harness 35 watts during the first 30 seconds or so. the links i gave you have 9006 connector on them all you need to is make sure you know whats negative and whats postive on the ballast and wire it approiately to the

i hate to tell you this but that harness looks like the one summit racing.com had for 7 bucks. if i were you you should have gotten xenon depot version .but it should work with som modification.

tip:
put silicone around all opening because it prevents moisture from getting inside and shorting things out. especially your relays.

one more thing please search and read maximus post. he did the first step by step hid walkthrough on here and i proud to say i followed his work closely

Thanks all for all your inputs and suggestions. I'll consider them all. But for now, I have to wait until I have all the stuff again. the projectors that I ordered came in with two left side (2 left projectors), the seller said that he/she have sent me a right side projector today, so I should be getting it this weekend. I hope my harness get here by then too, so I can start putting in my projectors.

Eppopipe,

It's funny that you're looking at those projectors, I was debating between those and the ones that I ordered. I decided not to take those because they have a horrizontal line across the projectors, looks ugly . But if you like them, I guest they would fit, dedpending on what are you retrofiting on. I am doing it on my aftermarket headlights. Here are the dimensions of the projectors that you're looking at:

2 5/8 Projector Lens
2 7/8 Edge to Edge
5 3/4 Depth of projector with bulb holder
6 1/2 With bulb installed
All these measurements are approximate

Hope this helps

75w start up? where did you get this info from?

i think this chart should explain the whole problem

btw 42w is what the ballast draws, after heatloss of 7w, it feeds the bulb 35w

bulbs needs to intially more power to start up and then eventually less to run. The ballast is designed to draw more amp (close to double of what halogen bulbs require as well as several times longer to warmup) to get these bulbs running. that's why you see a blue color light when HIDs first power up, then eventually as the amount of amp lowers, the electric arc dies down and what ever gasses are in the bulb should be generating the real bulb color

the harness you got should work, that ballast uses 9006 connector as well?

raWr215

it all depends on your setup so wattages will very. 42 watts is a general rule of thumb not necessarily the standard. ive seen personally some that draw 75 watts for a couple of seconds especially the older ballasts out there. but newer ballast are smaller and alot more power effecient thus some may draw as little as 42 watts or less

can in find out more about this ballast?

i also heard of people 'Supercharging' ballasts which is crazy. makes things brighter, trade off is, ballast get hot and bulbs' lifespan goes down, also risk of your headlamps melting. so far there are people who went up to 60w constant flow

ive heard the newer matsu____a ballasts use little amperage on startup. ive ran a 20 amp fuse on my entire hid harness(i know i should run additional fuses for each headlight) with matsu____a ballasts and they start right, so you figure both ballasts are using 20 or less amps to start up.

Got some updates. But not yet completed because the ballasts still did not work even with the harness. So, I ordered the McCulloch ballasts with bulbs. I hope to get it here by next weekend. I only have time for this stuff in the weekend anyway.

To get it mounted, I purchased a metal sheet from Home Depot. It is steel actually, I cutted it and drilled two holes, one for the orginal screw and one for the BMW E46 projector. I did this for three sides, two on the bottom and one on the top

length wise, it fits very well. However, for the BMW E46 projectors, the length between the screw holes and the projector is approximately 1/2 inch longer than distance between the screw holes and the projector of the stock headlights.. So, I had to move the projector back a bit. The problem is that the stock headlights buid a screw with a washer lock in it. This screw is the top screw that hold the projector. What I did was that I cutted out the washer and just drive the screw in deeper to make space for the new projector. You have to watch out not to push it to far back and drive through the back of your headlights. Thats all

Here are the pics from the back. For some reason, the projector is a bit shifted to the left... It fits fine upfront.

If you want to retrofit these headlights and using BMW E46, make sure you use the single xenon, not double xenon. I think the double xenon projectors might be too big for these headlights. I was fortunate to have it fit perfectly. Good luck.

BTW, it might not be worth while if you're gonna retrofit and then sell, because most likely people will buy the original aftermarket ones.

well extra projectors sitting here is not worth any as well right?

i'll reconsider that (thanx)

have you tried aiming the cutoff and trying to align it?
How much more to go, it's getting too exciting

Have not yet tried the lights yet, Haven't got the new ballasts yet. That's why I am not sealling the headlights just yet. I post more on light output and cut off when I get the ballasts.

i noticed that i had my lights opened for a few months rite now, so i will replace my buytl rubber (the seal) with these

i will gut the old ones, and put these in place

hey, if you are going to open yours, why not replace the LEDs as well?
