Yeah so the dealer told me not to go over 60 with the sunroof open. Not just popped, but slid back. Makes sense, but then again it might be fine.

Is this a myth or true? They lie so much it's hard to tell.

^ sounds like your dealer is an idiot.
Driving and 06 TC never had an issue with the sunroof and going 80+

I do it every day and have yet to see any problems. Even if they do occur just bring it in under warranty.

never had issues driving highway with open sunroof.. the only concern with that was if rocks hit it hard, it would break.. the older models had a recall and dealer puts a film on the glass so it wont shatter to pieces and go inside the cabin

if something happens to your roof, it will not be covered under your warranty bc it says in your owners manual to not drive over 60mph with it open

^^ X2.... bingo. I believe it was some sort of thicker 3M clear film. I had an 06 tC before my 08 tC, and I never had them put the film on nor did I ever have any issues. Put 60k+ miles on the 06 and not one nick or chip in the glass sunroof deflector.

Is it just me or isn't this issue beyond old news by now?

I usually close mine going over 60 just because it looks like it's wobbling around so much. It's probably fine but I worry too much.

I know man. I'm trying! Made this thread very quickly before a movie started on my iPhone at the theater.

Edit: title fixed.

About the 60mph and warranty someone mentioned. I'm glad there's some validity to that figure but instead of breakage, my concern was the amount if wind hitting that much surface area at 65+ speeds.

If you watch it, briefly please, it moves around just a bit at those speeds. I usually just pop it up versus slid open.

Whether or not you should I close mine whenever I go over 70 2nd position and I close / tilt it when its in the 3rd position and I'm over 55. Tally me into the paranoid category with some of the tC owners here lol.

there is nothing in the owner's manual about not having the sunroof open above 60 mph. if somebody wants to tell me i'm wrong, please specify what page of the manual says this.

as far as the sunroof goes, i remember it says that you should only open it up to position 2, because in the most open position you can set it to, it says that wind throb is generated. so only open it up to the second preset position when driving, not the 3rd. i've driven mine open to over 100 mph.

just checked, it does not say a damn think about not driving with the sun roof open above a certain speed, but just as i remembered, it clearly says do not drive with the sun roof fully open, it is recommended that you drive with it open only in position 2.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't covered.
