DIY: Badgeless Upper Grille Mod
#41
i finally did mine, i used zip ties to mount the plastic grill onto the chrome piece and then used 3m double sided tape to mount the chrome piece to the bumper. I think i messed up though, theres a lot of gaps. Looks great from a distance but when u look at it close it looks ghetto... lol

i have gaps around the chrome piece, i didnt have enough tape to go all around... I am thinkin about takin it off and redoing it. This time taping around the entire chrome piece then attaching it to the bumper . Then after, zip tie the plastic grill to the chrome piece. I didnt cut it the way u did because i dont like how the bottme grill has that thick plastic thing(where u taped it to the chrome piece), I ended up cutting around the entire grill. Sorry dont have pics yet, Ill try to take some when i get a chance to fix it.

Here are some pics, looks a lot better now. What do you think?
2 of 10 zip ties shown.
From up close you can see where I used zip ties, but from a distance it looks OEM. Overall Im happy with it, if anyone was to do this, please take your time and dont rush. Also make sure you have enough 3M tape to go around the entire chrome piece. It took me like an hour or so to do this thing because I wanted it to be perfect.

Looking great.
Still confused as to where the tape goes. Between the frame and the plastic bumper?
Any pics from the back showing how much the bottom grill has been cut?

Dakine did this for me. It's almost a completely different way of doing it. I'm planning to paint the chrome trim when I get the time.

yea also noticed that there isn't a gap on there at all. Mr Dakine is offering his services to do the labor for this thing. (just an leg or an arm) for the service.... He will need the lower grill.. and the chrome trim (chrome trim will be modded).

I just finished doing mine! I'm very happy with it. Took a few hours cuz I had to dig into the bottom of the plastic with scissors to make slots for the snaps that are on the bottom of the chrome piece.
I had to cut about 1 inch off the left side of the grill to get it back in. Didn't use any tape or ties, didn't have to cut the corners or the top at all. I did cut a few parts of the grill so the screw holes on the chrome piece would fit.
To keep it in place, I just used the clips on the bumper and put it in between the chrome and grill on the bottom, if that makes any sense. It is pretty sturdy but haven't driven around yet. I am going to definitely buy some 3M tape tomorrow and secure the chrome piece better on top.
When I cut the left side it made the plastic very sharp so I took my lighter and melted it and rounded the edges. Thank you for the great mod, that was my first!
