(Depending on quality) plus install plus paint etc etc, you're looking at a lot more then coils. A lip kit is cheaper, and isn't truly a "body kit." It's a simple addition to the bottom of the bumpers or side and can run 1-300 per piece. But once again, please search.
So the cheapest way but a good way too is to just get new lowering springs. Even a good set of springs can be cheaper than a good set of coils. Its just I wont have adjustability with springs opposed to coils I think understand this as, which means in winter the car could take abuse not being able to adjust. I read something somewhere, not on a scion, but getting springs that lower by 2 inches could kill the stock shocks of the car. Any truth to that with a scion? Would I need to get new shocks as well as the springs if going low low low? Of course theres a camber kit when going over i think its 1.5''.. hmm

This tc is the first car ive ever had thats been one that I have a million things that I can do depending on the money I want to spend. and after doing some basic appearance stuff in the first year, I just got back into all this the past couple of months as ive tossed and turned and decided what I want to do n how far I want to go with it. I just dont care much for a ton of "performance" upgrades if any. Though the intake thing will be something I'll be getting done in the fall. That will probably be it for that, in terms of engine stuff. HIDS and Grill will be next along once can find a good grill I like. and here I am throwing the lowering idea into the picture of it all since im really all about looks of the car. Not that I dont know much about cars, its I know enough, but not sure what is the best way to go always or makes the most sense. and I dont do the installs myself, not one to get under the car and take it apart to do it.

It's not the amount of drop that ruins stock struts, its the spring rate. (Spring rate is basically how stiff or soft a spring is) All of the lowering springs for the tC have a higher spring rate (stiffer) then stock. This means no matter what it will wear down the struts, how long it takes depends on too many variables. As far as in the winter, ride height won't make much difference on these, unless you are slammed to the ground. Yes coils have a lot more adjust-ability. Camber kit is not always needed over 1.5" of drop.

^The amount of drop DOES affect shock life. When you get into the S-tech drop of 2" or springs that go lower the shock(def using OEM) cannot dampen properly because the travel has been reduced. This will wear out the shock sooner than getting a shock with a shorter stroke to work with a spring that lowers a lot.

So to lower even more than I have, not only replace springs would be the solution, but i'd have to get better shocks? Or just ride out the OEM ones and replace when they are done with..

I'm on tein s techs right now, drop settled to around 2-2.5" around there. I had it on since August or September of 2010 with stock shocks as of today. I'm planning to get coils maybe this summer so I guess I'm getting shocks maybe.

^How has the ride been with stock shocks? If you plan on getting adjustable coilovers I'd ride it out til then, just shocks alone is half the price of coilovers(well some anyways).

LuvmyRSTC2009, if you plan to lower more(I don't know how much lower you want the car) on springs I'd go with a different shock. I decided with adjustable coilovers because it's designed to work together the dampening and the spring, and can be customizable, and you can set the car how you want, and even out all four corners. With springs and shocks you'll have to figure out which shock will work best with which springs(searching in the forum should get you some info/ help on that), and find one with a shorter stroke to work with the setup.

It's not bad, the suspension still travels a lot so theres a ton of bodyroll. I might go with ksports.

Can we please close this? Nothing is getting accomplished here other than the OP asking the same question 50 different ways...

Im not even trying to bash, but reading goes A LONG way.

The the OP, you don't even need to post... Just read. and keep reading. As Voltage said, learn how to DYI...Thats the fun of modding and working on your car. I don't see the fun in letting someone else do the work... There is nothing to be proud of when someone else does it.

Read, read, read, read, READ

and you realize, that not everyone who is good mechanically, could start messing around with things and perhaps learning to "DIY". But what happens when you do something, and you cant get it back to the way it was. Nobody around to ask. Nice to do things and learn things, but great when someone is around who knows whats going on. Or great to watch from someone in person and then do it. Which i've always learned from watching others. Like when I first learned oil changes and changing brakes. Watched someone else and then have been able to do it since. Just an example, though brakes and oil changes are not rocket science. But doing things like intakes, lowering springs, bodykits, etc are not things anyone can just in there and start fiddling.

Anyone can do an intake, and they come with instructions. It's as simple as taking off the stock intake via 3 bolts and 2 screws, then install the new with the clamps and hardware. Springs are easy as crap. Body kit's need to be fabbed into the body to look worth a damn, lip kits do not. But if you look around the site, and at the tech articles, you'll see a lot of the stuff you want is easy.
