It's to eliminate the drivers side blind spots in the rear left corner. If your mirror is adjusted properly on the passenger side, you wont need the passenger side to be convex. With the way we are positioned in the drivers seat, there are tons of blind spots when trying to look over your shoulder.

don't look over shoulder?

i don't even use the rear view mirror anymore... i've been driving big flatbed truck for my parents steel company and all they have is side mirrors. I'm so used to it that it is all i use. With these mirrors, just make changing lanes more easier
