I imagine that if you do something else wrong, you may get nabbed for it, but I'm not worried about it.

Spoke too soon. Loser pulled me over tonight - the night when 1/2 of the fools driving are drunk - I get nabbed for tint?
Absolute BS.
You have to remove it AND pay a fine!
AND, I have to go to court to do it - no online or mail.
CHP officially suck A$$
All the crap I see going on - including all the other cars with LIMO tint next to me and I get pulled over for that?
Pathetic. Can you tell I'm pi$$ed?

uhh... razor blade.... take up a corner.. and then peel a little bit of it off until you got a good grip... and then yank it off quickly.
that way the the adhesive stays in one piece... but it's probably on the window still... from there, use the razor blade and some soapy water or something to wet the window... and then scrape off all the adhesive.
that's about the easiest way to do it... don't bother trying to peel off both the adhesive and tint layer at the same time... there are ways... but ehh... i find that my way is easier for me. the only time i try to peel off both at the same time is when defroster or antenna lines come into play.
good luck man.

Thanks. I've read that you need heat and a couple of hours to warm/soak the windows and tint, as well as ammonia and razor blades.
But then, I'm sure the place that installed it will do it for an insane amount of money

neah... i dunno.. might depend on the tint used how easy it is to take off... but basically tint has two layers once it's on the window... the film itself, and the adhesive... when you're trying to take it off... the adhesive will most likely separate from the film.. there are ways to pull both off at the same time..
like you mentioned.. heat... ammonia.. and even steam. for my way.. i don't bother trying to keep them together.. i peel of the film.. and scrape off the adhesive with a razor blade after soaking it in soapy water.. or ammonia i guess will work too.
tint shops shouldn't charge too much... but i dunno...

Since this came up, I've been looking for the exact law and it's odd because many sites show Cali as allowing tint on the front if it allows 70% light through.
I will have to spend more time on this - at the least, I will bring in printouts of the stuff I've found to court and show them what a confusing thing this is.
And yes, it seems stupid to me too.

Scott, I 'borrowed' this information from a post by a member no longer here. It shows which California Vehicle Code sections primarily apply...
That gives you a good place to start:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26708.htm
This next page is a very good quick reference for a LOT of the questions that have probably been asked at least 300 times by the Cali folks:

(And I'm not even from California. )
Enjoy!
Loud car stereo. Illegal if heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle
(27007 VC).
Lack of front and rear DMV-issued license plates
(5200 VC).
Radar jammers. Radar detectors are legal, but jammers, or any device which interferes with radar signals, are illegal (28150 VC).
Lowered frame (or any other part) that is lower than the lowest point of the wheel rim (24008 VC).
* Air and hydraulic suspension systems that are operated unsafely or with the vehicle lower than allowed (24002, 24008 VC).
* Tinting the front side windows and the windshield (except for a narrow band at the top of the windshield). Windows behind the driver's head may be tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required (26708 VC).
* Lack of white rear license plate light (24601 VC). It must illuminate the license plate, not project light behind the vehicle.
* Missing front and/or rear bumpers (28071 VC).
