Headlight Armor - Night Headlight Film Testing Photos!
A lot of you may have seen our sponsor banner and wondered what you headlights might look like at night done in a different shade. Or perhaps you have seen a car at a show with some form of colored or tinted lighting protection kit. Well here is what ours look like at night. All photos were done with the same vehicle, parked in the same spot over the span of an hour or so.
Keep in mind that taking night photos is a challenge and depending on your eyes, your vehicles existing lighting your results may vary. The stock / Clear, HID Blue along with the GT Yellow are very close to what they looked like in person. For the Smoke the camera over compensated just a bit on light metering but we left all photos completely unaltered (aside from re-sizing them to fit on the page) so that the various options are as comparable as possible given the constraints of the technology. The photo with one side smoked and one side clear shows the reduction in brightness the smoke covers generate. Of note the depth and pattern of the beam didn't really change at all. The biggest change with all of the colors was what it did to drivers’ perception of the road.
Test Conditions
Camera - Nikon 4600
Camera Setting - Night Landscape
Photo Editing - None (just resized)
Test Vehicle - 2006 Subaru - Stock Halogen Headlight Bulbs
From left to right: Low beams from in front of the vehicle, low beams from inside, and high beams from inside
Base Line - Stock / Clear Headlight Protection Kit
HID Blue Headlight Protection Kit

Thanks, the HID Blue makes the light whiter. The new smoke does reduce the light output over stock (see the first photo of the smoke where the drivers side is smoked and the passengers side is not) but most who have seen it in person didn't think it was as dark as the previous version.

WOW, I did not know that the GT Yellow will make the light shine sooo Yellow. How would the GT Yerllow work with 6000K HID light output? Will it be too yellow to drive around? I have 3000k HID bulbs for my fogs and they shine super yellow also...
hmmm, debating weather if I should use the headlight ones or not ...

Not sure about the various temps, but there have been a few people here on Scionlife with yellow fog bulbs and yellow film, they looked pretty bright and yellow.
I have driven a few RX-8's and 350Z's at night with factory HID's and our GT Yellow headlight kits and they were just as yellow as the above photo's.
The photos of the smoked low and high beams are unaltered and do look a little brighter on my screen than they did in person.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

were the high beams real bright?
also, is it bad to drive at nite wit jus high beams?
for example. if i bout stealth smoke headlights, and drove at nite with high beams for visibility, would that hurt my car in any way?

lol, i understand that. but if i got stealth smoke headlight cover thingies, wouldnt that dim the light of the high beam. so i would still be able to see, and wouldnt be blinding others

the reason why people get blinded by high beams (as you know) is because they are projected up. If there's another person, its directed directly at their face
low beams are made so that they shine below other people's windshield line, approximately. Actually they're made for low speed travel but hey I can reinterpret things if I want

The Dark Stealth Smoke looks great on the taillights, but in a headlight application it is really aimed at the show / track market. The new smoke for the headlights does cut down on the light output as witnessed in the photos. If thinking about smoked take a look at the photo with the drivers side smoked and the passengers side not smoked for a side by side comparo.
