HID's 5000K vs 6000K
#21
I have 5000K in my 08 projects and they look blue when you're looking at them from outside, but when you're driving it looks white on the road...
6000K is too much blue for me. but to each his own. i'll take pics tonight when i get off work and post'em to show you.

I feel that one question needs to be asked. Do you want it to look blue to other drivers, or look blue to you reflecting off of other surfaces?
If you want it to look blue to you, go with 6000k or more- you will have less visibility in poor weather. I had 8000k in my Ram with aftermarket projectors.
You can't tell the amount of blue due to the beige garage door plus camera phone pic. In fog and rain I could not see the road nearly as well as the stock halogen.
All of HID look blue to me if I see them on other persons vehicles, even the 3000k look blue to me if I am looking into the light, but reflects back yellow. Maybe my eyes are tweaked.
A friend has 3000k in his Avalon reflectors and riding as a passenger, the visibility is excellent, he does get "flashed" though.
I have cheapo HID's in my tC '08 projectors. One of the bulbs this cheapo company sent me is a 4300k and the other is 5000k. You can only tell the difference after a while, most people don't notice and they look the same if your standing in front of the car looking toward them. Sitting in the car the 4300k gives me so much better view of the road so I put it in the driver side.
If I can get the money saved up I will be going 4300k from a reputable source such as MobileHID.

yeah the higher you go in temp, aka the more color in the light, 8000k gets blue then after that it turn purple and pink, but the more color you get, the less output, i mean my 6000k are not blue at all, i got them used but they definitely look like aftermarket lights but are just bright as hell and light up the roud trmendously

4300k is what the BMWs and such have as stated before.
I have sat next to the Lexus IS-F at night and my 5000k made his lights on the road look white with a hint of yellow.
Mine 5000k from Mobile HID are Pure White; they match my paint on my car.
Looking at the front of the car with a projector it is hard to tell the difference from 4300k to 5000k.
If you go to Mobile HID's website and look at the colors and the descriptions it will give you a really good idea of what to expect.
Also look at the lumen output of each color. I love mine, but it is because they are much brighter than any bulb I have had. The higher kelvin you go the less visible light you will get.

I just switched from 5000K to 4300K and there was a very noticeable improvement in lighting output and they have the exact same color. After switching the 4300K, I've come to the conclusion that anything other than 4100-4300K in projectors is a complete waste.

He can decide for himself. Look at pictures, see what the headlights look like from an onlooker perspective, check out cutoff pictures etc. etc.

I know the biggest reason I didn't go Higher than 5000k was the cops. But I really don't think they would bother me with 6000k. But I purely went for cosmetic looks, I wanted Pure White. The second reason was according to Mobile HID's website 5000k is only have 5% less light than 4300k. But they say 6000K is 12% less and I didn't know how bright HIDs were and didn't want to risk it being too little light. After buying mine, 6000k probably would have been fine too because 5000k is bright. Unless you are side by side, I don't think you will really ever tell in color or in visibility. Both have to be brighter than stock.
Oh and I just past MD inspection with 5000k no problems but my reverse lights didn't. (they were supposed to be hyper white and they were blue; stupid marketing on the package) So I know they were doing their job at the station.
