Default How Do I paint my Heat Shield Properly?

I just painted my heat shield with VHT high heat paint and before I painted it I sanded it with 400 grit sand paper. It seem to be flaking a little bit. How long am I suppose to wait before installing when it finish painting? And did I needed to primer it before painting? Thanks!

sand shield, clean shield with alcohol..........wipe down good.........plastic adhesion promoter is best to get paint to stick........but primer does ok.......several coats sandin in between........paint with high heat paint.....clearcoat .......let it sit for a few days to cure well......then install.

don't even sand it, too much work. it's just a piece of metal, get high temp paint. if it peels, do it again

i used some sandpaper that i found laying around(fine grit i remember) then cleaned off with water, wiped dry, used high heat primer, and high heat gloss black

running 5 months with no signs of peeling or discoloration, i even pressure wash it every now and then

I used the 1200 degrees one and it's has been good for about year with no chipping or cracking. All I did was sand it and spray it with 2 coats.... Then follow the directions for baking it in the oven to get the curing right.

its tru, the heat of the exhaust manifold will cure it in a way, and once it cools completely it will be as if it was done in an oven

Or you can use a propane torch to pre-heat the metal before you paint. I do one coat of Duplicolor 500º on hot metal. Done. Zero prep.
