Default How to Power Your HID Kit using your PC

Okay guys, i got my audi a6 kit in and i wanted to test how these baby work...
so how do i do it...

ahh yes, 12v rite ? gg my computer has 12 cables in side!!!

before i start, i am not responsible for any damage to your computer/hid kit or any injuries. evertying in this post is just information of what i know and information on how i used my computer to powerup my HID kit.

okay let's start by posting my kit:

So first thing first, my ballast was a hella gen 3, so it had a male 9006 plug on one end and ofcourse the other was the harness to the bulb/projector

I first went out to buy a 9006 connector (female)

I pluged it in to the end of the ballast. From the top where the clip, here's the polarity picture of the plug (credit to HIDPlanet so i didn't hafta do my own)

Okay for the computer part. please remember:
Turn off your computer
Unplug your computer from your monitor and the power cord

okay with that said let's continue
Next picture is a tipical molex connector in your computer case. again taken from HID planet:

You do not need to pull the rest out of your cpu. the text was alrady there for some other purpose

Yellow is 12v+ positive and black is ground or 12v- negative.
Use the black cable right next to the yellow

Okay here's my rig:

Okay now run 5 feet away and use a broom to turn on the power button
And now here it is powered!:

and cut off(not my pic, didnt' have enough room to get a good cutoff):

so everything is good im going to start doing my HID retro in a week or 2. Someone said they wanted to buy this kit off me. We'll see, if he is not gonna buy it. im going to use it and prepare yourself for another HID retro DIY guide :p

LOL i found a video on youtube where a geeky nerd did it. Thats why i researched it and found out how to do it

People actually use old cpu's PSU to power HIDs. Such as a HID lamp for their fish tank(plant growing)

.... okay here's the link

he is really a geek!

someone told me that japanese electronics uses green wire as their positive

again, i am posting these information on how i got my computer to run my HID kit. Please refer to your computer manuals for the 12v +/- to verify for the correct wires

BTW, i might put that retro on the side, i am going to create a new custom shield for a better cut off ^__^
