HOW TO: Tint TYC taillights
#22
Yes, I do. Sorry I didn't respond to you. My inbox is full of tinting requests, plus school and 12 hour shifts at work are not helping much. Let me clean out my inbox and I'll get back to you in a couple hours.
Thanks for the comments!

I have a couple questions before I do this. After you did the final clear coat, why did you wet sand it back to dull and then do all the waxing and buffing? Could I just skip that step?

To answer your question, yes, you can apply the clear coat and then just polish and wax it. The reason why I said you should wet sand it after the clear coat is because not many people have tinted tails before. 9 out of 10 people will experience runs, orange peel or uneveness in the clear coat...and that's why you want to lightly wet sand it down with 2000 or 2500 grit after the clear has FULLY dried. Below is a picture of my taillight with 3 coats of clear and no runs, orange peel, etc.
Hope this helps! Any other questions PM me. Going to retint mine like this probably in a couple weeks.

y nice write-up! I may do this when I have the tiem.
One question though. I am planning to paint the WHOLE taillight instead of just leaving the bottom part (I have TYC tails too). Will that be a problem? Will the light from the bottom one show up if I do it that way. Sorry I'm a n00b haha

You should be fine, but to be on the safe side you might want to leave the brake and reverse light area exposed. Cops are more strict when the whole thing is tinted...especially brake lights and reverse lights.

Flea! This is awesome! You have really good DIY posts!
I LOVE the red tinted tail lights in the pic below... is that just red paint? Or red tint?
Oh, I was wondering if you have a post on removing/painting the interior parts? I got my tC used and the person who owned it before me painted some of it, and its kindof a crappy job.
Thanks!

^The picture of the red TYC's above is photoshopped, however this Friday I will be tinting red a set of TYC's so, when that's done I'll post pictures here. Someone made a thread on me about painting the interior. In the search try typing in "Interior Painting: FLEA Method". Send me pics on what your interior looks like and I'll tell you the easiest way to get rid of the painted surface.
