I just got my tail lights done by Kennon and I can't completely express how impressed I was with his work and service. My tinted TYC tail lights started out as an idea and a makeshift picture in Paint on my laptop. I drew what I wanted my tails to look like since I hadn't seen the style I was looking for anywhere else and with a little bit of time and a lot of hard work, Kennon made my idea a stunning reality.
I would highly recommend his work to anyone who is even considering getting their tail lights tinted. He is an excellent painter and both his business and work ethics are second to none.

Very well done, Kennon. I look forward to having you do my interior when you get the time.

Thanks again for doing an amazing job on my tails.

Thanks FLEA for this awesome write up!

I pretty much followed the directions exactly. Looks great! I wish mine would look as legit as yours though!

I got two decently sized spray cans on ebay for 26 shipped.

My situation is this:

I tinted my 08 tail lights, third brake light, and side mirror markers about five months ago using the tint made for model cars and a clear coat sold on the same website (to save on shipping). I did not use rubbing compound or the plastx, but I did wetsand and wax. The side mirror markers still look dope, but the third brake light completely faded until it was clear and the tail lights are starting to fade bad. I don't know what the rear faded and the sides didn't.

Nevertheless, I have decided to do it the right way (following this guide). Along with re-tinting my third brake light, I'm going to tint some ebay fogs I just bought and some 07 headlights I purchased for $40. I'm going to restore the 08's using the tint removal thread FLEA made (your threads are amazing and helpful, thank you!).

So these are my questions/issues:

I'm having trouble finding U-Pol #1. Would a sherwin williams automotive paint shop have this?

Also, should I re-tint 08 tails and sell 07 tails, or vice versa? I personally like the look of the tinted 07 tails with the reverse light left untinted.

Use whatever tails makes you happy, if you like one style and not the other; then go for it. As for clear coat....if you want your project to dry and be ready to buff in just under 3 hours, then use this clear coat. Much better than U-POL and better yet, it has a spray nozzle on there that sprays just like a gun.

Usually goes for $36.

Thanks FLEA, your help is greatly appreciated! To the poster above me: the tails look good. I mean, for a first timer, it looks like you were meticulous.

Those tails look really good, but you can get them so much more shinier.

Kennon is indeed the man; his reputation precedes him. That's why I elected to have him spray my corner lights as opposed to me just f***ing them up myself.

Hello, newbie here. Great write up. I had a few questions for Kennon

What kind of spray gun and size tip do you use when spraying?

Do you mix a hardner/accelerator with your clear coats?

Thanks in advance

1.3 tip. 4:1 ratio, clear coat, hardener, then a few drops of black paint....depending on how dark I want them.
