Autozone sells those plastic push things. Not sure if they're the same size but I've seen them there.

No inspections where I live...so, no. I think it'll will depend on the person performing the inspection and how dark the tails are tinted.

You can find a used pair for $40 shipped on ebay and just switch them out. I have no inspection here either but this is a cheap way to go. You also won't have to risk going to jail or fines for briving them.

Plus, if you buy the extra set first you can take your time with the process of tinting them.

all you need is a couple hours to dry to the touch if you need to put them back on, but to polish them up you need a full day of dry time...

I failed inspection technically, but a different mechanic at the dealership put the sticker on for me. Mine aren't really that dark either.

Go to ebay and find the taillights for under $40 shipped (I've bought two sets in the past and paid $30shipped and $35shippd). Then send them off to Jon's Tinted Tails. You won't regret it. I've see people with the vinyl and if it's not done right forget about it. If it's done right, wait a few months. I've had the VHT tails and they were good too but nothing like the JTT. It has a smooth shiny surface that blends with the shiny surface of the car. You don't even have to go as dark as I did. Go with painted tails from JTT.

Oh, JTT is not a sponsor of mine, I just love what they did.
how much did it cost to send your tails to JTT, and for him to tint it? Like what was your total cost with buying the tails, shipping costs, and then the tinting itself?

I bet you could save a little money by having the tails sent to JTT from the seller.

$30 shipped for 2nd pair of tails
$10 shipped to JTT
$80/85 for JTT to tint
$20 I think for return shipping
Total about $145

Well worth it. I've had them done myself and seen others that I thought looked great in person and the JTT puts them all to shame including the overlays. I would however look at other cars with the same color as you with the tinted tails and see if you like it that dark.

Neothin (on scionlife) has a blue (06) tc and has faint or feint taillights and the color is perfect for that color car. I couldn't tell much from pics but in person it's perfect. The faint tails are OEMs that have the "chrome" inside painted black and has LED lights. So there's no paint on the outside and doesn't block any percent of the light. It gives it the perfect tint for his blue car. Mine is a black tc with dark tint from JTT and looks perfect cuz it looks like it's the same color and shine as the car.

well i know you posted this back awhile ago, but in case there were other people doing this mod....

i ran into the same problem even after wet sanding tons and 5 layers of clearcoat. VHT niteshades you want to put on multiple light coats. but the clearcoat you want THICK coats. not so thick that it runs. something i found useful was holding the light and spraying it while looking for my reflection. i would fan-spray around the area until i saw a mirror reflection then spray elsewhere until the entire light had a mirror effect.

i put on some light coats of clearcoat in the beginning, but all i ended up with was that same dull look. you need to put it on thick. hope that helps.
