I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. Regardless, you're going to have to come out of pocket to have it replaced. Your model year doesn't fall within the recall for the laminate to go over the glass.

if they ask how fast you were goin say 40 lol they dont know screw them (i work at a dealer too who cares)
try to get it covered under warenty and tell them they should change the manual to 40mph instead of 55

Easy fix bro.
Call your insurance company, tell them a rock hit your sunroof and shattered the glass.
Most insurance companies cover it.
You may have to pay your deductible though which could be $200 or so but better than the prices you've been quoted thus far.
Yes, it was your fault. No, you didn't read the manual. You flew down the expressway knowing full well your sunroof was open and just given how it is made if a rock hits it at high speeds it is over with.
Take it as a lesson learned, read your manual and close your roof on expressways but call the insurance company, you should be covered.

bullcrap my fault, its a sunroof wtf, how is anyone supposed to know that in the manual it says over 55mph close the sunroof, i mean seriously WHO DOES THAT, its spring nice weather, who doesnt want the sunroof open. I had a 2005 scion from december 2004 to november 2007, then upgraded to my 2008 scion in november 2007. Now all of a sudden this stupid crap happened and I wasnt speeding. According to the book i was speeding 5 mph over. this is bullcrap, and yea i called my insurance but my deductible is $500 and I live in NJ so anything less than $500 is not an option since insurance is so stupid high here. whatever i'm going to go to toyota service tomorrow and see what the manager says. I still wanan know how much that other guy's friend repair cost. please reply

The manager is not going to eat the cost of parts and labor because of your disregard for the manual which it clearly states protocol.

Also - I wouldn't want my sunroof open..I think i've maybe used it 4-5 times since i've owned the car (bought in 06) and honestly I could care less about having it.
and btw - doesn't matter if you were doing 1 mph over...the manual says 55..stay below 55 with the sunroof open.
.....or you could take daves advice

reguardless if the manual states not to go over 55 or something, the warranty still covers it. it a mechanical moving part that one part of the warranty covers. atleast in my situation it did. i walked in and said hey my sunroof wind deflector just shattered on me when i was driving down the highway and i want it covered under the warranty and they said okay and put it in the shop in an hour.

im going to respond to the first "sentance" only.
YES, it is your fault.
it CLEARLY states in the owners manual what to, and what not to, do.
hell, i didnt read the owners manual either, but common sense tells me that a piece of glass protruding upwards at 50+ MPH is not safe.
