Default Need to replace hatch gas struts...

Hey guys,

I need to replace the gas struts on my rear hatch - the existing ones are not able to open the trunk all the way. I'm getting quoted some crazy prices on the regular OEM replaces ($140-$170 each!), but I've seen some better prices for the struts that are the replacements when installing a pedestal. Any issues with using those stronger ones on a trunk without a pedestal? I'm assuming that it may be a little bit harder to close the trunk, but I'm fed up with bashing my head on it, and I'm looking for a reasonably-price solution!

Also, in terms of the replacement, I'm guessing it is just a case of propping up the trunk with a 2x4 or something, and replacing each one in turn.

Thanks,

Jason

I am pretty sure any auto parts store sells these. I remember replacing them on my sister's car and we got them at NAPA or Advance Auto. This was a few years ago, but I am sure they still sell them and I am pretty sure they were not even close to $200 for a pair.

I got a pair from TRD Sparks a while back and this what I paid plus shipping ,they are the heavy duty ones.At the begining is a little hard to close the hatch if you don't have the pedestal spoiler but with time they loosen up and you will be fine.

Is that $45 for one support, or is that a pair?

Thanks.

Ok, ignore that. I opened my eyes a bit wider and read the following:

"Heavy duty struts for the deck lid with spoiler. One pair."
