I am thinking of doing this mod as well - painting the heat shield over the stock header. I see that duplicolor has a very limited selection of colors of the 1200F High heat paint. Will the 500F engine paint be good enough for the heat shield? Or do I really need something to withstand a hotter temp? I am looking for a gold color to match the theme I currently have (in my head only at this point )
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!

always go with the high temp cause it all depends on the driving condiitons also..

Any chance you know where I can find 1200F gold paint? The only high heat paint I am familiar with is duplicolor and they do not have anything close to gold. Thanks!

I see that VHT has some new products - Engine Metallic and "Fireproof". The Engine Metallic withstands 650F, the FireProof up to 2000!.
My question is - if I painted the heat shield with Gold Engine Metallic (650F) and did a clear coat in the Fireproof (2000F) would that work to protect the paint? Or is it not smart to mix products like that? I ask because VHT has a nice looking gold in the Engine Metallic...
