Painting OUTSIDE of headlights??

Default Painting OUTSIDE of headlights??

A buddy of mine and I are wondering if it is possible to paint the outside of the tc headlights. We want to do an eyelid look, but he doesn't like vinyl and I already have overlays, but would do this if it's worth it. We both have have projector headlights and I figured the only problem would be heat from the headlights. So, if a high temp basecoat was used, then spray paint of the car color, then clear coat.....would it work? Does anyone have an educated answer to this, or at least a reason why it wouldn't work??

I don't think the heat would be a huge issue. The stock housing is painted right? Lots of people custom paint the housing to match their exterior color.

Good idea too, up by the eyelid doesn't see nearly as much heat as the housing by the bulbs so I don't see a problem.

More permanent than vinyls, yet smoother and more clean than a CF eyelid or a fiberglass one. Brilliant.

the heat will not be an issue if it's the eyebrow area. If you take your time and do it right (sand, clear, buff) it should turn out good.

i painted my eyelids on. the only problem u have to look out for are rock chips.

I got the paint on the way and we are going to be doing this once it gets warmer earlier in the morning so we can take our time. Since I have aftermarket head/tail lights, I'm going to put my stock ones back on in case I need to go somewhere while they're out. That way I can take all the time I need to do this right. I did think about rockchips, but just like they didn't stop you, they won't stop me lol. I had bluebats eyelids on, but then we had about 10-14 inches of snow and I got snowed in and snow sat on the car for a couple of days and one eyelid bubbled and ripped a little bit.

It should turn out pretty cool, I got a classic silver, and he has an 08 blue ribbon, which should be pretty awesome. He's also painting his taillights up above the lights where it's got a carbon fiber look to it. I might smoke my tails too, but I don't know how good they'll look since I have chrome tails.

bake the headlight apart and paint the plastic eyelid cover underneath the lens. That way, you don't have to worry about rock chips. Here's an example of what I'm talking about with the stock headlights. I painted mine when I did my angel eye install.

sand the area, prime then paint and it should hold. The heat from the headlight shouldn't be a problem.

that looks good to.

living in the atl isnt always about rock chips. if rocks arent hitting my headlights its something else. road debris has torn up my lenses.

Got the clearcoat, the sandpaper and the paint..now I just need a warm day that I'm NOT busy lol.

It would be kinda cool if you painted the eylids black but did a thin silver outline to match the car to make it unique. Just a thought.

That would look pretty good, but I'm not big on having eyelids and other things not match the car.
