Default Please help me diagnose...

I've had quite a bad clunky sound/rattle coming from my RL. It seems to be just when I hit bumps. I have aftermarket springs, so I thought it might be the center bolt that seems to have caused others similar problems, but I checked it and it seems tight. Same witht he 3 other top bolts. I didn't install the springs myself, so I hope I checked all the right bolts. The noise did however seem louder when I had the interior ripped out of the back. I also have a progress rear sway bar, but it also seems tight. It doesn't appear that any exhaust hooks are loose. Nothing.

Anyhow, I've searched and tried to diagnose this problem for a while now with no luck. If anyone has any ideas, please share! Could it possibly be something with my brakes? I know my brake pads need to be replaced. I guess the next time I have the car jacked up, I'll take a bar under the wheel and see if I can pry it up to reproduce the sound.

Thanks in advance for the posts!

Is it a deep/low/heavy pitch metal clunk? If so it'll probably a blown shock/strut. Especially if it only make sounds on bumps on the road and you used the oem shock/struts w/ the aftermarket springs.

Or, you can check the bushings on your rear and front bars, so you may try uninstalling the mounts/bushings and see if they're ripped or installed incorrectly.

What nobody? Okay, if you feel an unusual bounce everytim you drive a hump, yes it is the shocks. Or,

(I got this from http://autorepair.about.com/od/troub...suspesnion.htm)

Symptom: Clunking over bumps. Feeling clunks and knocks through the steering wheel when you go over bumps or even cracks in the road.

Worn shocks or struts - replace shocks and/or struts as indicated.
Worn strut bearings - inspect strut bearings and replace both if needed.
Worn ball joints - inspect ball joints for play and replace if needed
hope it helps ya.
