Took us about 4 hours, but that was with a lot of trial and error, and a trip to the hardware store. Once you know what you are doing, it should take less than an hour.

^^^ Looks like, based on his wiring diagram, that he added the Red and blue wires to the ends of the clear wire from the light set.

CXT - you totally read my mind, this was the install I was prepping for. Thanks for confirming my ideas will work!

Does anyone know if these will work for a Camry 2001?
My Camry dome light doesn't come on when I use the remote lock. It only goes on when i open the door.

It is a universal kit, so It will work on any car. You can hook it up to a switch, or the dome light.

I like em, I like the fact that they are wired to the domes. Gives it a legit reason for having them (I wonder how many people missed the fact taht these are called 'puddle lights'. I'm assuming that my assumption about why they are called that is right...).

I have a couple of questions though...
1. What kind of bulbs? LEDs? Since these are universal and can be mounted anywhere, they might make for some decent interior lighting. I was wondering if it was possible to throw in some colored bulbs instead?

2. This is pretty much off topic... but if I wanted to wire other lights that go on and off with the dome lights, could I use your instruction above as a guide? Or is that specific to just the puddle lights? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I know nothing about electrical wiring in cars.

1) They are LEDs and can't be replaced. Also they are designed to do focused pools of light (circles), so if that's what you want, go for it We've had customers install them under their seats which looked REALLY cool:

installed 2 sets today.

If it helps anyone the positive is the wire with the white stripe and the negitive has no stiripe.

That blue wire you tap into is the dome light supervision. The 12volt is just a constant 12volt. Not sure if it is fused. I didnt look to much into it.
I was wondering how it worked with the fade. Now i know.

But the install was easy. Looks great at night.

Any problems running the wire up into the cabin?

[qutoe]Any problems running the wire up into the cabin?[/quote]

no not at all. Real easy.
I ran the wires from the left and right side puddle lamp seperate. So if you look undernethe you wont see any wire crossing. I ran them thru the door gromets.
Once you get the inner fender well out, then you will see a plastic cover. Just pull that out and you will see the inside of the door. Pass the wire thru and then pass it thru the groment. Remove the kick panels and stick your hand in the hole and grab the wire.

Its not to hard.

whenever the dome light comes on period, or whenever the door is opened? BIG difference.

when ever you unlock the car or open any door that will make the front dome light come on.
If you turn on the front dome light with the switch it will not turn on the puddle lamps.

I didnt use the quick taps. I dont like them.
Quick how to....

Inside you will need to get 12volt power and ground

First dissconect your battery. + side.

Open that cover on the driver side by your knees. you will see a plug on the left side. almost to the top.
6 wires white plug.

You need to tap into the blue wire. pin #2. It has silver bands on the wire. You cant miss it. Only blue wire in that plug.
unplug it. You can either use those blue taps or do it the right way and solder in the wire.
You will need to tap the ground wires into the blue wire.
Peel back the black wire loom. Find the blue wire.
Cut the sheething around the wire. Dont cut the wire. Take the s2 olid wires (no white stripe) from the puddle lamps 1 from each side, This wire is the ground. Stripe the puddle lamp wires and wrap it around the blue wire. Solder it on. Black tape it. plug it back in.

For the 12volt power. To the right of that plug you just worked on you will see a empty spot. Has 2 prongs coming out. The top prong is the power. If you own a test light or volt meter, test it to make sure you have the right one.,
It will be a constant 12volt source.
Put a female end on the wire with the white stripe. Take both. You should have 2 wires from the lamps.
use a small female spade connector. Stripe the puddle lamp wires about 1". Then double them up. twist them then fold them back and then twist them again. Then stick them into the spade conector. crimp the life out of it. The wires are really small.
Plug that in and reconnect the battery. Open a door or lock then unlock the car.
That it's.

I took it 1 step further and added a fuse to the power. You can get them from any auto parts store. You probably wont need it but just incase. Just look for a inline fuse holder. just plug that into the power and then plug your lights into after the fuse.
Add a 5amp fuse.
now this is not needed so dont get scared. It will work fine without. I was using it without. That part your getting 12v from is a controll module. Looks exspensive to replace if it shorts.

How did you mount the lights to the underbody? Did you screw them into the plastic or use tape?

Thanks, BrianH
