rear hatch handle broken
i recently just saw about 5 tc's with their rear hatches handles broken. it's happened to me before now i make sure i open my hatch from the bottom instead of the handle itself. just wondering if any of you guys have or have had the same problem.

There have actually been many threads on this. Speculation is that when people are breaking them, they're hitting the release button but picking up the trunk via that plastic piece (referred to usually as the garnish) instead of the actual button. So a lot of people are putting too much stress on that garnish - when they should really be lifting with the button area since it is much stronger.

i did a search everywhere...seeing as if maybe there was a recall on this or toyota mentioned anything on it. i noticed that when my first broke it was right after it rained and the door kind of stuck and it needed a little more force to open. you're probably right though i know i did pull the hell out of it just to get the trunk to open. i learned the hard way. i ended up reinforcing the insides with zip ties and super glue haha

Oh ya, don't expect a recall on this... because more often than not, it is user error in one way or another. There really isn't any sort of defect or anything that would be a cause for concern. It's all in how you're doing it.
