Default Roof/Sunroof Replacement? Why NO Production? Vendors?

I had thought about this before and had recently saw the weigth reduction post (which I L<3VE) and I was curious as to why no one has made this for production? It sounds like there were a few made or maybe just one made. It cant be that hard to do and I know I would certainly be intrested in it. I plan on making my own with plexiglass over next winter if no one comes out with a replacement. Any ideas/comments welcome

because it might not be street legal. the glass roof is a structural part of the car just like the windshield.

i belive kaminari makes a carbon fiber roof for race purposes.

Yeah, Kaminari makes one, however I don't think they keep them stocked & they're made when ordered.

They make a CF one and a fiberglass one. They aren't cheap - but they do shed a lot of weight from the top of the car to lower the center of gravity.

Yea, like the OP said, I've always wondered too. I suppose because most DD use their sunroof.

I'm sure if it were affordable, ppl like AutoX or SCCA would want to have some extra benefit in center of gravity/lost weight. The common replacements would be better than glass- CF, fiberglass, aluminum.

I don't get how glass can be a structural requirement. It essential floats on top of a metal frame and busts into tiny pieces when struck. Now, if it's because some other material would be unsafe, like it splinters or something, I get it.

yeah, i know that the fixed pieces of glass can clearly be part of the structural integrity of the car, but i've always wondered why one can't simply replace them with a light weight glass, or perhaps some high quality air craft aluminum or something for some weight savings/lowering the center of gravity in the car.
