Sunroof Problem!!
#21
My sunroof is messed up
So, I have a 2013 scion tc and when I got the car 2 months ago the sunroof worked. But 2 weeks ago when I close it it stops 3/4 of the way and won't finish closing. I have to:? let go of the close button and push it again for it to finish closing
Does anyone else have this problem? Toyota said that they all do it and that its a safety thing so you don't close your hand in it. But it didn't do it when i got the car. :?

I have a problem with the sunroof also, when I push the open button, most of the time it doesn't open! I have to do it about 20 times before it opens, and if it opens I'm lucky, it has no problem closing..feel like sometimes I have to help it open..what could it be?

yea the 2011 and newer tCs are not the same as the ones this thread is about, not sure what facebook has to do with it.
but anyway, for LesliesPinkTC, that is normal operation, the only thing it will do is open all of the way when holding the button down, they don't close all of the way.
for frankiietc, it might need to be re-greased? or the motor is dying if you have an older 1st gen tC?

Thank you very much. I wasn't sure and no one at the toyota dealerships knew about it. And I'm sorry that i ....brought up an old thread. I don't do forums and like I explained to the other person I just found this forum post on Google and saw others were having problems so I made an account and asked a question. Thanks for your help <3

Wow...really? Like I said I DIDNT LOOK AT A DATE I SAW THE POST AND THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING PROBLEMS SO I THOUGHT I WOULD ASK. THIS IS WHY I DONT DO FORUMS BECAUSE RUDE ___ PEOPLE LIKE YOU. YOU COULD HAVE SIMPLY SAID "Hey don't know if you know that this post is from 06. But that's OK cause were not rude and if some one knows the answer they will write back"
Oh and Cool story.

Dam262a, you aren't following the rules as much as LesliesPinkTC
while technically she wasn't completely relevant to this thread, you are not being so helpful.
Rules: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/toyota-celica-4th-gen-1710/duplicate-5476/
LesliesPinkTC, here is a link to the tC2 forum where everything about your model is actually discussed: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/for...lay.php?f=1824
now, the only further responses in this thread need to be about problems or solutions with the 1st gen tC sunroof or i will start handing out infractions.
1. I will keep my posts relevant and helpful.

I have an 05 tc and it he sunroof has never givin me problems, one day not sure what happened, I tried to open it and it only would want to lift on my passenger side... It's like the driver side was jammed or stuck not wanting to lift???
Has anyone had this happen? Or can anyone help PLEASE!! Thanks.

I'd have to agree with OP and mc1114, the rails for the sunroof to close are dried up and need lubricated. It's a flaw in the sunroof itself.
I just went down to the local auto store and got a small jar of lub that stays viscous and keep it on hand. I've only had to apply it twice and I've had my tC1 since Aug. 2005.

I thought i would shed some light on this subject...
just so you know i used to be a mechanic at a toyota dealership and worked on the scions a lot....
the reason the tC sun roof sticks is because friction builds up on the two arms that lift up the front wind deflector glass from dust/dirt or lack of lube. if you wipe off and/or lube these arms periodically it wont stick. our normal fix would be to wipe it off and put on a dab of lube that ford sells (or any long lasting lube) and smear it over the top of the two arms. not too thick though. the sunroof rides smoothly after that no need to lube anything else
