Sunroof whistling + extended warranty = $900+
So I just got back from the dealer. I've had a whistling coming from the sunroof for a while and took it in today since it's been too cold to drive with it open. First they tell me I don't have an extended warranty which it said right on the paperwork 100,000. So I say ok to looking at it cause if it was under warranty I wouldn't be paying anything. Then they say that they want to replace the gasket, call me in and say it will cost over 900 dollars because it's the whole sunroof and my crappy extended warranty doesn't cover that...Calling Toyota now...

Yea I hate toyota dealerships
I bought my car from a honda dealership and sorry but...
they are a lot nicer
and they have hot chicks that keep you company
at mine at least...
so far everything they have fixed on mine...
Alarm

(Still waiting for manual)

No need to get extended warranties. They are the worst buys ever b/c the dealer becomes much more meticulous about what they will replace and what is covered. It's just a way for them to get more money from you at first. They screw you in the end. 3/36 is more than enough for me and I've never used it b/c I fix everything myself. If you could have a friend that works on cars or if you could learn on this car, you'd save more money and peace of mind rather than getting an extended "warranty."

All I have is some nasty lady that doesn't like that I want to wait and watch my car (first oil change at dealer they broke my fog light)
So I spoke with someone about the extended warranty and the only part that is covered is the sunroof motor. I thought I read somewhere before about the motor being replaced for an issue of whistling. Anyone else hear of that? Anyone on LI know of a dealer that is good for service?

Ok, so I'm calling every number I can find. Scion Customer Service is looking into this and going to contact the dealer. They said that it's not a known issue but I'm sure there's others that have had this problem.

the call is up to the service department. of you ask for a gm. if it's something thats not your fault. it should be covered. sunroof is not a wear and tear item. if it's a known issue. it's a known problem. and they have to fix it.

Waste of money if you plan on modifying your car ever. Dealerships are just out to make money. Not that hard to see that.

wow. you're a douche. i never said i was high and almighty. i just am.
yeah, dealerships are out to make money. how many dealerships out there are content with losing money? none.
and why is it a waste of money. if your engine dies. they can't blame a cai or a exhaust for that. it's called the magnuson-moss act.
yeah alot of dealerships are unethical. but you chose to take your car to them. go _____ to your salesperson.
i was just letting you know how it works at a dealership. peace douchie.

So back on topic. Chris, have you had come in with a sunroof that whistles?
I know there's lots of angst against dealers, but I respect your earlier post since the dealer by me had no problem telling me I had to buy a new sunroof.

i just don't see why it's not covered. i mean... if you messed with it... then no it's void. but you said you had the extended warranty. find the original paper work. take it in. ask to speak to the service manager. if you think they are jerking you off... go higher on the chain of command. the general manager is pretty much the highest you'll go. the service manager should be able to resolve the issue. i know that if it's under warranty... the tech gets paid. and the dealership gets paid.
try calling scion corporate. that 1800 number. i'll ask around work and see what happens.

i talked to the service advisor. he said if you have a aftermarket deflector. that might be the cause. but the tc has it's own wind deflector so it's probably not that. he said it WOULD be covered under warranty. so go back and _____ up a storm.

Thanks for checking it out. I didn't do anything on the sunroof other than the thing that they put on the wind deflector. I'm gonna see what's up with the Scion cust service. I did find on here that some people have had the sunroof motor replaced which I was told is covered under the extended warranty.
