Default TC :Burned out fog light harness !!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, fist off,I'm new to this forum my name Pablo. I own a 05 TC
Well I bought an after market fog-light kit from ebay. I hooked it up & it worked fine
for about 2 days until the harness burned to a crisp ! I'm so happy my car didn't catch on fire. Well my question is did I install it wrong? " I don't thing I did but, correct me if i'm wrong please. First off I grounded the black wire from the fog lights to the factory ground on the left side "driver" under fender. I put one power wire to the battery ,note: the + wire came with a relay & a fuse. Then I grounded the black wire comming from the switch & then put the + wire from the switch to 12 amp,not constant. Well it worked fine for about 2 day's & the I seen smoke comming from engine bay. Well the herness starting from the battery completly fried to a crisp.
Can anyone tell me what might of happened? I don't understand I belive I did everthing correct. Was the harness diffected?
Help!

Can you tell me what VRD FTW means?

what i meant to say was APT FTW. APT is a company that sells plug and play fog lights off of ebay. they are the same exact fogs as VRD fogs. ftw = for the win. the reason i put VRD(APT) FTW is because i've never had a problem with them. they're a reputable company. they sell their fogs for about $100 shipped, well worth it.

what kind of fogs do u have?

Hey, sorry I wasn't familiar with the term guy's. Anyway's
yeah I bought the one's from ebay that go assembled
on the outer bumper. Please advise what could have caused
this problem, man I think it was a short or something faulty with the wire harness.

Question, on the swicth itself does it light up when you turn on the parking lights. Also when you turn them on ,does the little circle in the middle light-up & shut-off when off.???What power source was used for the switch itself ... examples please.. any pics would be great.

I had the same problem, but mine with VRD fogs (I have hids on them). One of my ballasts stopped working. So I got a pair of ballasts from another scion member.

After the install, it was working fine for a day or two.

Then the fog light wiring harness fried to a crisp.

Not sure why, I wonder if it was because I didn't have a relay harness on the hid fogs, or if it was the ballasts.

Either way, I found a solution for it =p

Just thought I'd comment.

do you have a link to the ebay page? I'm guessing they didn't include a relay. Contact the seller and see if they offer a warranty, hopefully there's no damage to your stock wiring.

Well I got the vrd fogs directly from vertex racing.

Back when it was still new to the scion market, lol.

It didn't come with hids or relays at the time.

So I got an hid kit oznium (no relay harness). One of the ballasts stopped working after a yr and a half.

So I got a pair of used hid ballasts from another scion website. Then 2 days later.

The stock wiring for the fogs, was burned to a crisp. I had to seperate the melted wires and cover it in that liquid pvc stuff, to protect the wiring again >.< That was really annoying, lol.

It was messing with the wires for my speedometer. Fixed the wiring as best I could. Speedometer has been working perfect since.

I had to run new wires, and a relay harness, blah blah blah, lol.

Just need to get some new vrds now.

=p

As to the cause of the problem, i'm not 100% sure.

ok i had your same problem i got the jdm style but high wattage yellow bulbs in and melted the crappy jdm fog light housing. and honestly the wiring harness they give you sucks. you can only use a switch it does not give you a oem wiring harness like the vrd's your best bet is to buy vrd fogs or oem fogs. i was so lucky my car didnt catch fire. i had no idea it melted the housing till it rainned and water filled up into the light and burned the buld out
