Default Tinted signal mirror lens with Rit Dye

I have a Flint Mica and I darkend the lens using rit Dye. It's an old trick and it only costs $3.00 and is a smoother, cheaper and probably safer than using the spray. Remove the lens assembly, put Rit dye in some water and heat till simmer in a old pan or glass bowl on the stove. Submerge the front of the lens in the dye , but don't get it inside. Keep it in the dye for 10 -20 twenty minutes based on desired effect. Remove and wash of with cool water. If not enough color, do it longer. You can use any color dye you want. I used black to tint the lens dark. Rit Dye can be used to tint many plastics of light color. [/img]

HA. We used to do that when I was really into R/C car racing. All the parts plastic parts were white, so we would dye them black or some other color to match our paint jobs.

ya I did this to my paintball hopper. Never thought to do it with the plastic but this process does work and looks great.

Would this work with the tails? Does it still retain a glossy look?

That's a pretty darn good idea.

Some paintball players tint clear acrylic parts or 10-tubes the same way, with Rit Dye and a pot of boiling water.

Kudos for having the guts to throw your sidemarkers into a boiling pot of water!

make sure to add salt to the solution. it for some reason makes the dye adhear much better to the plastic. Did the black dye job come out like smoke tint or is is black? i assume you can still see the blinker through it.

A lot of supermarkets have it too. It's usually by the shoe care and home cleaning supplies.
