Since no one else did it, i took it upon my self to try it out since i had some lying around the house.

^ It looks exactly like that, although there is liquid dye, but i didn't use it.

I poured about a teaspoon in 5 cups of water, and let boil.

Then when it boiled, I lowered it to a simmer, the dropped in the signals and let simmer for 15 minutes. Make sure no water gets within the housing.

Then rinse and dry off.

Then you end up with this:

well from the picture i am guessing No, because this is a color dye thats being worked into the paint, what you did might have been spray paint or paint job, so its going to have a different shine,

Similar to buying Black tail lights and tinting.

Pointers on doing this:

1. Prepare, so you can know what the eff you're doing. When i did it, the dye dripped everywhere in my kitchen, I had to go back and clean up all the spots that fell. When doing this have a bowl of water to rinse them in and a towel you don't mind getting dirty because it is a dye after all.

To answer Tcguy85's question:

It shines like it came from factory. Basically, it looks oem.

I work at lenscrafters and this is how we tint lenses. Not Rit Dye, but same basic thing.

I used it to dye the ugly grey key fob to a nice flat black.

Is it legal to do this, or other colors? I suppose it depends on the state, does anyone know off the top of their head for Maine?
