Default VIS CF Hood or Bbist CF Hood...can't decide!

ok, i've narrowed my CF hood choices to either VIS or Bbist.

now i have read countless ScionLife threads about both. I've read stories of bad experiences w/ the Bbist hood being cracked or damaged from shipping, but i would preferably want a double-sided CF hood.

does VIS' cf hood come double sided?
how strong are the hood latches on the Bbist and VIS?

For those that have either, please help me decide!!

thanks!

VIS is double sided CF. The latch and hood are so strong hood pins are an option.

i'll try and find where i read it.

i also called Seibon and they said the OEM style CF hood isn't double sided.

but it is tempting to buy the Seibon...especially since there's a local authorized dealer (JSC Speed) close to my home.

VIS BIG! bbist small! i go with BBist, VIS makes so many hoods n stuff maybe theyre attention to detail isnt as good as it used to be, and plus i like BBist, but on the other hand, if you build alot and they sell, its for a reason.

so im pretty much worthless in this thread.

05_TRD_tC, i'm assuming that's the VIS?

cheapest i found was $559 shipped at ShowStoppersUSA.com.

i called VIS and they said it was NOT double sided cf. They could do a double sided hood for $50 extra, but it would take 8 extra weeks. then again, he said the double sided cf doesn't really have any added benefits except for looks and doesn't recommend spending the extra $50.

please correct if i'm wrong, but i read that double sided was supposed to be better.

We have the new seibon vented carbon fiber hood added to our site.

Also with any carbon fiber hood you should use hood pins as the latch is only held in by the fiberglass under skeleton. In 4 years we have been doing business we have had just 2 customers that had failed latches and one from Kaminari and the other VIS. Both cars suffered broken windshield, damaged roof skin, and totalled hood.

It is always advised to use the pins as a precaution you do not want the hood flying open especially on the freeway.

Also all these carbon hoods are only carbon on the top layer and backed with fiberglass. The VIS double sided hoods only have some carbon on the bottom and most of the skeleton is black gelcoated fiberglass.

Our best selling oem style carbon hood is the KKO Carbon hood which we have privately manufactured. We have sold 27 of them this year and no complaints of any kind from any of those customers. The finish is also UV treated so it is ready to install out of the box.

Krazykustomz - thanks for the seibon alternative, but i'm looking for an OEM style. KKO version looks nice though.

winter is gonna be here soon in Philly, so i probably won't be able to put this on till spring.

Yeah I am from PA orignally near State College but living in No Cal now running our west coast sales office. When I lived in PA we all pulled our carbon hoods off in the winter b/c the road salt and cinders just wreaked havok on the finish.

would a clear bra or something similar be of any use?

also, would the cold weather itself have any effect on the CF?

cold weather will not really affect it other than being more prone to cracking if impacted but would take something significant enough to dent a metal hood to crack.

the clear bra will help but will also be dificult to remove in the spring.

I'd just take the hood off for winter and run the stock hood. Only 4 bolts to swap them out.
