Default What Parts are Illegal in NJ, or whatever state your from?

I just recently placed Green LED windshield washer lights on my TC. I went online in search of what is illegal to have on your vehicle. I know at shows, anything goes. But for when I'm driving the streets, I don't know if I can have certain lights on, and certain things off. California was the only state that listed on their website what is illegal to have on your car. And Jersey is nothing like California when it comes to vehicle laws. Basically, I just want to find a list of what is illegal to have WHEN YOU’RE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE STREETS. It would help if you knew Jersey law, but I find that most states are the same so if I see reoccurring patterns, then I would assume it is nation wide. Thanks for your postings.

Here is what is illegal in California: (According to CHP Website)

 Loud car stereo - Illegal if heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle
 Lack of front and rear DMV-issued license plates
 Radar jammers. Radar detectors are legal, but jammers, or any device which interferes with radar signals, are illegal
 Lowered frame (or any other part) that is lower than the lowest point of the wheel rim
 Air and hydraulic suspension systems that are operated unsafely or with the vehicle lower than allowed
 Tinting the front side windows and the windshield - Windows behind the driver's head may be tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required
 Lack of white rear license plate light - It must illuminate the license plate, not project light behind the vehicle.
 Missing front and/or rear bumpers
 Illegal engine modifications. Most are illegal due to smog
 Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal. Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
 Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory. You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal.
 Tail lights other than red
 Illegal brake lights. Brake lights on vehicles newer than 1979 must be red. (Vehicles older than 1979 may be red or yellow.)
 Lack of rear reflectors. Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks.
 Incorrect color of turn signal. It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear.
 Red lights to the front. They are illegal except on emergency vehicles.
 Tail lights that incorporate a bulb with a red tint or coating. In general, custom tail lights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens are legal. If they don't incorporate reflectors, they must be added to the vehicle.
 Tail lights that are too dim washed out or show yellow, white or other colors.
 Illegal color of side marker lights. If present, must be yellow in the front and red in the rear.
 Driving with just parking lights on. Vehicles that have factory-installed automatic daytime running lights must meet federal requirements and are legal.
 Illegal decorative lights. All flashing decorative lights are illegal
 Illegal windshield washer nozzle lights. Only white or yellow are allowed.
 Lights attached to tire valves.
 Lighted license plate frames (unless red).
 Illegal lights, whether or not they are operating. It is illegal just to have them on the vehicle.
 Excessively noisy exhaust systems and mufflers. Many aftermarket exhaust systems and parts are illegal. Look for parts that meet California law. If it doesn't say it meets the law, it probably doesn't.
 Exhaust systems which meet smog requirements but are still too loud. Exhaust equipment that states it is, "Legal in all 50 states," refers to smog, not noise.

Lack of the front licence plate here in LA can get you a ticket from what I heard, I'm assuming if you have the holes present.

Ok.

He's from Jersey. He doesn't care what goes for Cali.

As far as I'm aware, anything other than red, white, or yellow (in their respective locations on the car) is illegal in NJ.

Unless you have premits to carry other colors. Usually (only?) emergency vehicals.

he asked for "or whatever state your from" as well
alot of states have common laws, and that is probably why he asked

You should pay a visit to the DOT for the state of NJ. I ask the DOT from delaware for certain things before, Blue angel eyes are illegal , so is tinting your taillights/headlights

HID retrofit is legal! as long as they are DOT projectors and you align your lights properly, they don't care.

In California it won't be long until cars are banned, cause they cause SMOG

everyone hide your children, the evil car driving smog making killer monsters are coming in their CARS! Thank goodness for the good people in California...

anyways, I think most anything is ok here in Florida. We seems to be a pretty mod-friendly state... I do think underglow while driving is illegal though, but I see some people do it anyways

obviously things like blue and red lights are a no-no... and other common sense things like that are illegal as well

I have them on a switch now. Still haven't got pulled over yet for driving with them. I guess i'm just going to show them off to friends for now.

Didn't realize everyone was just writing about the lights, I appreciate the help, but I was looking for other things that may be illegal, like mufflers, oversized anything, I though the one law about how low your car is comapred to the tire being illegal was different. Not that anyone would ever pull you over for it i'm sure. Most cops don't even know ALL the rules.
