wind deflector shattered

well that would prob be why.
its not meant to be open at high speeds.
take a peice of glass and hold it out your window when your going that fast.
the same thing will prob happen.
it even says to close it when your on the highway or whatever in the manual.

That's fine, but how many people are going to stop and think to close the sunroof before getting on the highway? I see people driving on the highway with the sunroof open all the time. I see about 5 tCs a day with the sunroof open on my drive to and from work. I've been driving for over 3 years with the sunroof open, just that yesterday it happened to get hit. I'll still drive with it open after it's fixed. It could have been my windshield like it was the other times.

well good luck with that.
i remember to close mine everytime, its not that hard.
o im getting on the highway and i have a giant piece of glass protruding right above my head, i should prob do something about that...its common sense.
yea there alot of ppl that drive with sunroofs open on the highway, not all cars wind deflectors are made out of glass.
idc how many other tc's do it, im still not gonna risk having a shattered piece of glass that i have to replace.
but hey what do i know? im just goin by what it says in the manual...its not like the put that stuff in there for a reason or anything.

What is the point of even having a sunroof if you dont have it open because of the very small chance that it could break?
Thats like saying I dont park my car in parking lots, because it could be bumped into, or park under any trees because they COULD fall on it.

well jahfakin that would just be more cost added to the MSRP of the car. im not saying i disagree but im sure scion had reasons for it.
and carguyhil i park as far away from other cars when possible and try to avoid parking near things like trees or lightposts becuase yes...i have seen them fall before and thats something id rather not deal with.

What costs? The sunroof is electronically controlled, and the speedo is already monitored by the EDU. So all Toyota has to do is slightly mod the existing electronics and re flash the ECU.

idk, seeing as i dont work for toyota.
but whenever you add something to a car. it adds cost.
Think about R&D development for that, first they have to figure out how to do it, then they have to test it to make sure it never fails, they also would have to pay for the time and parts it takes to make it possible. Im not saying it would be an extreme amount, im just saying anytime you add something to the car it adds to the price.

hey that happened to mine and i didnt even have mine open... and the shops here said that the recall doesnt cover repair for it so i had to fix myself. best bet if your deflector shatters is go to "toyotaparts4less.com" (its $100 less there than anywhere else) and then by some carbon fiber vinyl to put on it and that will keep it from shattering and overall it cost me about $300 vs the $500 i got from shops estimates
