[poll] help me decide on a short shifter
I've narrowed it down to the creative compact ss and the B&M ss. I thought about the Dr. Isotope but it has too much throw reduction. that takes out most of the play in driving stick shift, i might as well drive an auto.

?? It is nothing like an auto. You reduce throw to make faster shifts.
Contact doc, he can usually do various throw reductions and heights.
But if you dont want much throw reduction, just cut the stock shifter down and re-thread it. It is cheaper than buying one somewhere (free if you already have the tools) and will get what you need.

The throw is reduced, but not the effort. In fact, the effort goes up as the throw length decreases.
You don't shift any more or less; with a short shifter you spend less time between shifts. I really don't see how saving a few hundredths of a second off of your shift time will decrease your enjoyment in shifting...

This may seem like a dumb question.... but why not stay stock then? Even just shortening the height will reduce throws to some degree.
But with short throws, effort is actaully increased in a sense. You are taking leverage away from the shift. So while you arent moving as far, it is taking a bit more effort to get into gear. That is why going way too short will make shifting a huge pain in the ****

Oh. If you want the look of a short shifter without the reduction in distance.... you could probably ask Doc I to get you a shifter that's proportionally shorter on both ends of the shifting fulcrum. That way you'll get a stick that's visually shorter with the stock throw distance.
