Default 08 Tc oil consumption/ compression good

Recently I discovered my 08 Tc is burning 1 1/4 quarts of oil every 1000 miles. I ran a compression test and all the spark plugs are clean and no oil residue or carbon build up. Compression ran all the same numbers in each cylinder. No oil is visibly leaking and the dealer thinks it is bad piston rings. If that was the case would the compression test have detected this? I have just over 66,000 miles on it and bought it brand new. I have every receipt of all the oil changes and tune ups when the car was due for them. Any thoughts or suggestions in this would be appreciated. Thanks!

What were compression numbers?

Could just be a cracked ring. I'm no mechanic but it might not show itself in compression ALOT but enough to burn off oil.

The numbers all ran at 150. Which I guess in perspective is a little lower than what I've searched.

My guess is that the piston rings are probably not wiping away all the oil. But I'm not sure. Others that have delt with the oil issue can chime in. I rebuilt my engine at 47k for boost so I'm not part of the issue.

I've been told 175-180 is preferred. My block was still close to 180 when taken apart at 47k with 5-7k miles on 12psi of boost

I'm going off memory so I can't say my numbers are 100% but I'm pretty sure.

Ya I have heard that the 170-180 range is preferred. I don't know whether I should just keep adding oil every time it needs it or replace the small block. I didn't plan on modifying the car. I just wanted to keep it stock until it was paid off and then go from there. Wasn't thinking of doing anything with the engine seeing how it was a Toyota manufactured one I thought it would last me quite a while. Do you think if I keep adding oil to keep it at the levels needed would it harm the engine knowing that I may have bad rings?

By the way I really appreciate the info you have provided me. It's always good to come on here and see what other Scion owners say.

What weight of oil do you use?

The reason I ask is because when running 5w30, my 2009 never burns a drop of oil. Not even when running the same oil for 6k miles, not even the slightest change in oil level. But one time I tried running 0w20 like the oil cap says, and it burnt through a whole quart in 4,000 miles.

If you are using the ultra-thin stuff you might try going a little thicker (though hopefully you tried that already).

I believe it's 30w. At least that is what I remember seeing on the receipts for my oil changes. I can check.

Ok so it looks like it's actually 5w20. Looking at my receipts it shows half of my oil changes have been using Valvoline and the last half of the oil changes it has been Chevron. I went to the dealer for a while to get my oil changes done but it was out of my way. I started going to a Spee Dee oil down the street from me and they were using Chevron oil. All using the same 5w20. I didn't think the brand of the oil really mattered.
