1az-fe swap (yes 1az)
so i am currently on my second 2az engine and happily boosting 13psi on a 60-1 cool right... sure but knowing full well that i will need a new/rebuilt engine soon i have come up with tthe crazy idea to swap in a 1az-fe while my engien gets built. the swap its self will be VERY straight foward all i have to do at most is swap over all of my electronical sensors from the 2az into the 1az minus MAYBE the cam sensor as i know ours are very sensitive
now i know your wondering the reason behind this well it is because the 1az is a 2.0 engine that is square in its design which means the bore and stroke are an equal value this creates for an engine with downlow torque and some nice topend now when working at trying to get high hp out of a square engine you must have great flow kind alike a honda so i will put a custom intake manifold along with my currentt turbo kit i will try and see how much power i can squeeze out of the little 1az if you are wondering where to get one they exist in 2001-2203 rav4 make sure its a 1az-fe not the 1az-fse which is d4 injected

Based on what I read on Wikipedia, I dont see the benefits of a 1az.
1az: 148 hp at 6000 rpm and 142 lb·ft of torque at 4000 rpm
2az: 160 hp at 5600 rpm and 162 lb·ft of torque at 4000 rpm

Hit the nail on the head except for the 2.2 part its only a 2.0 also come with no balance shafts, for those guys with a 2az build u can also swap the crank for a 1az and have yourself a nice high reeving engine build your head ofcourse hey paul u shld offer that

If you're doing this just while your motor is being rebuilt, it is a huge waste of time IMO. A motor rebuild would take only a few days, and while thats going on you'll still be dealing with the pains of putting the 1AZ in. Of course this wouldn't be true if your doing a budget build over the course of weeks (which still you'd be wasting valuable money on a spare motor)
