2006 Advantages vs. 2007
Are there really ANY at all from a performance standpoint? In my mind the '07s higher redline, oil squirters, and higher compression tell the tale. I'm open to other fact-based opinions though. Thanks!

AH, but the '06 is older and therefore wiser and more cunning!
Seriously, though, what's the compression ratio change? I heard whispers, but when I was looking, none of the stadard FAQs had yet been updated.
And what IS redline? Or at least, where's the rev limiter? I can't say that I've been up there very much. CLOSE, but never near the edge. :D

Redline begins at the same spot but the limiter cuts fuel at 6.5k RPM. The '07 has a 9.8:1 compression ratio. It's not published on Scion.com but it is published on TIS which is written by engineers rather than marketers. The '07 also has oil squirters which are always good.

My 06 limits at 6.5K, When I dynoed thats where it stopped and the limiter cutted. Theres already parts for the 06, and to start modifiying I believe its still harer to find parts for the 07. Maybe I'm just bias, since I have an 06. :D

06 advantage: more parts
07 advantage: we have less miles so far hahaha and ooooooo did i tell you about the new maf sensor! its friggin reversed! making progress slow for 07s. only 2 intakes out, injen and fujita. and it took them quite a while to release it.
soros151 was right about the parts for 07s. but soon enough we'll catch up. besides its only the intake, everything else fits fine.

true, and congrats on getting a tC.

Re: 2006 Advantages vs. 2007
I'm not sure why everyone's so quick to claim the 07 is "so much" better. It's not like what the RSX-S underwent in 05, where it actually gained 10hp, and was marketed as such.
Yes, the 0.2 compression helps a very little... oil squirters could help in a seriously built N/A application... and the redline's basically the same (within the accuracy of the rev counter). Hell at the rate our torque drops, a higher redline would not be beneficial to an otherwise stock untuned tC.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. If you have an 06 and are seriously considering trading for an 07 because of these "differences," then I suggest you spend the money on driving lessons. You'll be 100x better for it, and chances are, you probably need it.

ehh..
i guess you can talk about changing rims and tires easier without dealing with the new pressure sensors...
seriously... worrying about anything other than that is pointless.

the 07 really doesnt have only 1hp more tho....its 1 hp more post-new sae ratings....
so the 05-06 has 154hp now using the new SAE ratings...and the 07 now has 161 hp using teh new sae ratings
so i guess that would explain the higher whp wtq thingamjig

So the 07s gained 7hp? Nice. Not a reason to trade in the 05 or 06 for the 07, but close. Better resale value, oil squirters, compression is better, more hp. I drove a friend 05, then my 07, both stock, I felt the 07 pulled better.
#14
Ehh... I wouldn't say that. I've driven both too and the 07 doesn't have anything on the 06 in terms of driveability. Some say the clutch is easier to deal with on the 07 but I don't see too big of a difference in favor of either car.
The changes on the '07 tC were put into place pretty much because of the new Camry. The '07 Camrys got revised 4 cylinders to appear progressive and to do better in mileage and emissions testing so the tC got the new engine as well. Also, the new TPS system was put into place to follow federal law.

you also have to consider resale value. ;) clutch wise. it's the same i think. i noticed that my 06 and my friends 06 was a little different. it's all just luck or something.

bottom line, that much power doesnt give you a great deal of advantage. you probably wouldnt be able to feel that much of a gain. but IMO, 05-06 have the advantages. they dont have to deal with the cursed tire pressure sensor, or a new intake. they have more parts. and as an update, i forgot to include that TRD also makes a 07 intake. but ITS USELESS...msrp @ 515$?!?!? ridiculous. if anyone wishes to trade in a 06 for an 07, then do it at your will. but unless ur planning on building one hell of a N/A car, its not gonna be worth it. theres not that much of a difference. we have 5 more stock parts than 05-06, oh wow. but 05-06 have billions of aftermarket parts for their cars. on a balance scale, depending on your point of view, they would weigh out evenly to me.
