Default 3rd gear really hard to shift into **BIG UPDATE 1-8-09 pg3**

so when i first bought my car, i thought it was my driving that every time when i try to shift into 3rd gear, it grinds. but now my 3rd gear is really hard to get into. sometimes i have to let go of the clutch and push it again before i can slip it into 3rd or i have to get out of a gear, hit neutral and leave it for a while before i could get it into 3rd... is this my driving? or is there something wrong with it? i know im hitting the 3rd gear correctly cause sometimes i let go of the shifter so it centers before i shift, but no luck.. it still jams...

any ideas?

I would suggest changing your tranny fluid with some MT-90 products and maybe add some syncro-mesh and see if that helps any.....Thats the cheap thing to try first

So you've gone 1+ years with a grinding gear, and didn't expect something bad to happen? Take it to the dealer.

i changed my tranny fluid with redline... hmm ill look into syncro-mesh...

my gears dont grind every time.. just when i shift really fast.. but i dont know why it still grinds when my clutch is all the way down... experimented it with my clutch all the way down before..

they cant blame it on my short shifter right?

They can try to, just mention Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and you'll be fine.

Swap your shifter out before you take it in if you have a concern with it, it doesnt take more than 20mins....

let the gear box center correct before shoving i into third you can shift fast but you have to let it hit neutral for a second so the syncros can realign

I would get it checked asap. My friend had the same problem which worsened over time and then one day it just wouldn't go into third. Then about 2 days later it wouldn't go into any gear at all so he jammed it in out of frustration and blew the tranny and had to get a new one.

It's your best bet to do that, but don't stall any longer take it in ASAP. Before it's too late.

Just making sure that when you pull down for 3rd gear, you aren't pushing the stick to the right any. 3rd is like straight down. I love the way the tc shifts. It seems like it wants to go into the next correct gear. When I drove a friend's 350z, the gears weren't as easy to get into.

yea, i HATE the 350z shifter. Its a PITA to get into 5th gear. I assume with owning it you would get used to it. But the guys that i drove said he has missed 5th before when doing a pull against a svt cobra. but yea racing is bad....i would never....
