Default 5th Gear slip out, ANSWERS!!!!

I have seen lot of members post that while cruising in 5th gear it disengages into neutral. It only happens in 5th gear. Members always say they are going to dig into the problem but never post after they have figured out the problem. If anyone out there has had this happen and figured out what the problem was please respond. I would really appreciate it.

Its the collar on 5th gear. You can replace 5th while its on the car.

....i don't quite what understand your question. but from how it sounds. no you cannot reach the tranny from the center console. you can reach what dawg is talkin about from the drive side of the car just remove the driver side axel then drop the driver side tranny mount then remove the black cover on the transmission case. it will be there.

easy if you have the funds avalible. you can source a junkyard tranny for about 300-400 or you can call a parts store or dealership to see if you can get the collar itself.

Actually 5th gear is accessible within the pan/cover on the driver's side of the trans. Basically, drain the trans. Take the driver side tire off. Take off the plastic wheel well crap. Remove the black pan on the end of the trans (like 12 bolts), than you have access to the 5th gear assembly.

If you look at the manual transmission dissassembly Jester wrote, it shows you how to take apart 5th gear.

I will definitely try this as soon as I find a replacement part. Thank you so much for your replies. Since my tc is no longer under warranty the dealer was going to charge me thousands to fix this problem. Thanks again.

Where did you end up finding the part? I have been calling around a shopping around, and I cant find just the collar. I really don't want to buy a transmission for just one part....
