Mostly because scion engines have pistons designed for low emission, high fuel economy. Therefore the ring lands are placed high on the piston. Therefore not being very well designed for large quantities of boost without failing in a relatively short period of time. Therefore creating large amounts of warranty work that Toyota would have to pay for. Therefore answering your question. But hey, what do I know? Nothing

do you think that the case is simply that toyota did not have a sure-fire way to blame your engine failure on your decision to run higher-compression pulleys (people swapping back into stock pulleys right before bringing it in for service)? so they decided to just scrap all other pulley setups so that we couldn't cheat our way into warranty work? that's what i think, hence the "tamper proof" cap.
(i don't know crap either. lol. all speculations.)

I would assume that would be the exact reason for the cap. Im suprised that they sell the S/C over the counter and dont insist that it be installed by a dealer to be covered. Especially with the reflash.

The pulleys only create higher pressure air before it reaches the cylinder. The compression has to do with how much the air is compressed by the piston once inside the cylinder.
Once the pressurized (boosted) air enters the cylinder and mixes with the fuel, the mixture is then compressed by the piston on the upward stroke before it is ignited.

corrections welcome

Well, technically, you are both right. I tend to call them overdrive pullies personally. I guess its all preference.
Dante, the way you discribe compression is correct. However, a boost car has a static compression much higher then that of a NA car because you are forcing so much more air into the cylinder. More air = more compression. So technically you are both correct.

Some dealers are mod friendly, some are not. Know your dealer before you do any modifications.
