Default Belt Drive Tensioner Exploded

Okay not really but I got to put on one of my first mods (Light Weight Fly Wheel) I get the stock pulley off loosen the belt and when I was putting the belt back on my buddy pulled back on the Tension bolt and the thing cracked and broke. It was not a clean brake either and ended up chipping a ton.

The problem is that now I cannot loosen it to put my belt back on and I that being the case I can drive my car!

I have looked for parts and the soonest I can get it here is 2 days, I am looking for any other way to get the belt back on the pulley, get the replacement part here asap, and any cheap way to just get the tension part and not the pulley and the hydrolic.

Please let me know if you by chance have had this problem or have any ideas.

Thanks

Get a photo of what exactly broke. are you sayingthe actual bolt broke or that the whole tensioner assembly broke?

First let me say. it is next to impossible to get the belts on/off without utilizing the tensioner in some way.

I helped a friend who had a belt problem with his S/C'd tC, it had the actual bolt to the tensioner rounded off. To this day I don't know how it got back on. he used JBweld on a socket and somehow we were able to adjust the belt so it just barly slipped on.

best of luck man, a photo would do wonders on helpping you figgure out what the heck your problem is and how to aid in fixing it.

Default belt tensioner

It sounds like you broke the bolt that's part of the tensioner, but i can't b sure without pics. If it is what i think you're talking about you'll need the whole assembly cuz the bolt and the tensioner are one piece. I had the same thing happen to me and it runs around $150 just for the tensioner and i recommend u have a mechanic take care of it.

The actual bolt broke, I looked it up and that part is 169.00 I am wondering if I can get JUST the peice that broke not the pulley or the hydrolic.

I will need to have a mechanic do it because I tried to pull it off last night and the top bolt wont come all the way out, it comes 99.9% of the way out and hits the fire wall. I called a local shop and you have to pull the motor to pull that part off.

So last night we tightened everything back on and with my hands I pulled the belt down and got it back over the pulley (took about 1 hour of tugging and pulling) But its on there and runs but I wont be able to ever get my belt back off untill I take it in and get that part replaced.

Does a hack mechanic count as 'normal use'? I'm guessing he yanked about as hard as he could on that thing with a nice, long wrench.

you need the whole tensioner because the piece that broke is part of the tensioner assembly

true to crack that thing would take a good amount of torque unless it was defective or some other process made it brittle
