Default big bore throttle body

I am developing a adapter/tb spacer to put a RX-8 70mm TB on a tC. I need someone willing to bring their tC to Simi Valley, CA for a day for fitting and testing. If it works and you like it, the TB and adapter will be yours to keep. I am also looking for a tC parts distributor to market these kits. I do not watch this forum closley so please e-mail me directly at kevin@blackdiamondracing.com

I am not offering anything for sale in this post.

Thanks,
Kevin

No, it would have to be a RX-8 which is also a electronic throttle or "drive by wire" typt throttle body. The RX-8 throttle body is made by the same manufacturer as the stock tC unit and has the exact same electrical connector. But the bolt pattern is very different and the RX-8 unit does not have any vacuum ports - thus an adapter plate is necessary.

Not yet, I still need a car to test fit it on. It has to be someone willing to come to Simi Valley, CA.

Bump.

I'm happy to see a real potential upgrade, other than the stupid "tornado" in the other thread.

I think Simi Valley is in Ventura County, which is an 805 area code.. ( I could be wrong though )

Why not try to bore out the stock piece, wouldn't it be less costly? Just curious.

The stock body can be bored from 55mm to about 60mm. I think there is a company already doing this for about $3-400 plus a core charge. The problems are; a maxium of 5mm maximum increase of bore size and core exchanges are a pain since no one wants to be without there car while waiting for thre TB to be bored. The up sides to the RX-8 TB conversion are; no cores, a 70mm bore TB, and a TB spacer/adapter will also make a little Tq. by increasing plenum volume. The down side will be the cost; the kit will be about $125 + a RX-8 TB ($350 new - used they are about $150 if you can find them).

The gains would be minimal in terms of hp/tq. The biggest difference would be throttle response. Given all things equal from your intake to your intake manifold, you'd then see the hp/tq difference. What's the intake manifold port size? If it's bigger than the stock 55mm throttlebody, this would be a worthwhile modification.

I had my stock tbody port/polished/knife edged on my WRX and honestly didn't notice anything.

Yes, pretty much what he said. By itself the only real improvement will be throttle response. Throttle bodies are not for the guys looking for one or two mods. They are for those who have or will have complete intake and exhuast systems. By itself, a TB is usually only worth a couple of hp/tq - it works best when combined with other mods. The adapter in this kit will taper from 70mm(the RX-8 TB size) to about 60mm(a couple of mm larger than the intake opening). This will allow it to work without any porting and give the guys willing to do porting something to work with.
