Default Borla and TRD cat backs...

I've been lurking here for the past month or two (even made a few posts)... lot's of really great info from a bunch of great folks.

I purchased my 2006 tC with a Borla cat back installed by the dealer. A number of members have stated that the Borla and the TRD are the same system however...

When I look at pic's of the TRD and compare them with my Borla they are not the same.

In the TRD pic's the exhaust enters and exits through the same side (passenger) of an oval muffler where my Borla has the pipe from the motor entering a round muffler on the drivers side and then exiting on the passenger side.

Does anyone here have a Borla like mine?
... or a TRD like I described?

Pete

They are axlebacks (just to correct)... but I wasn't aware of the borla and TRD being the same setup.

Maybe it was that when I went to the Borla site (and a number of others)... the exhaust in their pic looks like the TRD and not what I have.

Pic to big to post...

I think what is being said is the the TRD exhaust is though to be made by Borla while they also offer an axleback under the Borla name as well.

It is not uncommon for TRD USA to outsource their parts from other companies and rebadge them as TRD.

Well I have found out that there are 2 different versions of the BORLA for our tC's...

1.) TRDish Style

2.) The kind your describing.

Thanks gxcandy for the picture.

Thanks!

Yep... Number 2 is what I have. ;)

...and the reason why I asked is because...

I just installed an Injen CAI and AW header. My car was really loud and raspy after the install. Since then I had two small resonators installed but it's still too loud for my taste. I have a precision muffler axleback on order and Gabriel said that his system with a header is about as loud as the TRD with no header. Ultimately I will find out but until then I was wondering if anybody knows if (on a stock tC) is the Borla louder than the TRD or the same.

1.) TRDish Style

Now this is the Borla exhaust that I have and I believe I read 8 HP/ 12 ft lbs Torque.

I don't think the TRD does that, but I'm wondering what the other Borla exhaust numbers are.

8HP/12ftlbs? Sound a bit high for solely exhaust... but the stock is REALLY restrictive, so I could see it maybe.

I don't have a sound clip as of yet, but I will try and make one this weekend. It pretty much sounds just like the Flowmaster exhaust.

As for the 8hp/12ftlbs. It does sound a little high to me as well, but that is what a few websites are advertising it at.

i still don't understand why borla made two versions of their exhaust then. Unless one does outperform the other.

I live down the street from borla industries.....and......................
the reason the one borla exhaust looks like the TRD is because..
wait for it

wait for it

its the exact same thing! just no TRD etching.

its the same deal with the Celica's TRD/Borla system.

The TRD and the Borla are not the same.

This is the TRD

and this is the Borla

Now Borla might make the TRD but they are different exhausts.
