What is the exact fault code they read? (Have seen others use non-Scion tC references which of course lead to an incorrect diagnosis.) Once you know the exact code you can research it in the Tech section here.

Also the wierd smell could be the sulfur-like odor given off by the catalytic converter in the exhaust manifold, this is not unusual.

if your lean its your MAF more than likly, if not a messed up injector or vacuum leak would be the other options.

Maf is the sensor on the pipe of your intake.

maf is mass air flow sensor, and it is the little black box screwed into your intake, if thats thats the problem you need a new MAF. I highly doubt it is an injector, and for the leak you need to just have a mechanic check the car for leaks, but it is probably the MAF, it usually give is self away by affecting both banks of an engine at the same time, but since the scion is a 4 cyl only way to tell is to have it checked

new MAF is fairly expensive, if your car is still under warranty, take it in, and whatever they find wrong will be under warranty.

take it to your dealership, tell them what code you found, they may want to test themselves, after that, they will perform a series to tests to determine the problem and fix it.

dont call, just drive up say the car is running lean which is considered major problem and they should check it out pretty quick

if anything they should give you a loaner since it will be dangerous to drive a car running lean
