Default Cold Air Intake and your Warrenty

I've had people tell me that installing an aftermarket intake will void the Warrenty on my car and I've had people tell me that it won't. I want to get some feedback from you guys and girls based off of your experience with this issue.

While you guys and girls think, you can check out this video clip that a co-worker of mine sent me.

This Topic = Power Hungry.

As for the warranty... it doesn't automatcially "void" it. Nothing will do that. It becomes an issue if something goes wrong and the dealership determines that the aftermarket product you installed DIRECTLY caused the problem - then the repair would not be covered under the warranty.

I don't doubt that your right or anything but is there anything official that states this? I think I saw something along the lines of this in the warranty handbook.

I don't think I could give you any specific quotes. And I won't say that I'm 100% certain either. My best recommendation is to speak with your dealer directly and find out for sure. I think you'll probably get a very similar story - of course dealers will vary in their "type" of response. Whether they're cool about it or want to be jerks about it.

But I think you'll get very similar replies from many of the SL people.

Magnuson Moss Act. Law states they cant void warranty because of after market parts unless they can prove it caused the failure.

If you want specifics, then you need to search on it. Here you go bro...SPECIFIC:

The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fradulent activity by new car dealers. Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's orginial warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warrany or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.312 administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

Do your home work...

This is about the umpteenth billion thread about warranty voiding.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to come off mean or anything. Wasn't trying to bust your chops. I'm guilty of doing the same thing sometimes. But it all comes with the territory of being a noob.
