compression test gave me weird results..
So.. I hit 120K miles on my tC.. Never boosted just basic I/H/E, however I did mis shift 3x to 8,000 rpm with the short shifter a while ago.. So I decided to do a compression test...
The mechanic who did it seemed very sketchy, I'm definitely not going to him again.. The compression test process seemed wrong since he told me not to push the gas pedal and just start the car with the clutch in.
Results: Cylinder 1-130, 2-120, 3-120, 4-120
So its consistent, but shouldn't it be 180-190 psi?!!!?
ALSO-He said I need a new serpentine belt since it was brown and worn out.. Don't we have a timing chain?
Feedback would be more than welcome! Thanks guys!

You can always rent a compression tester from autozone and do it yourself. Also, we do have a timing chain, however the serpentine belt he's talking about is the one that drives all the accessories (alt, a/c, p/s, water pump) - at 120k it is more than likely itll need replacement. You can usally tell if its starting to crack or fray, than it definately needs replacing. If its hard or feels brittle replacement would be a good idea to prevent future issues. As for opening the throttle body during a comp test, Ive found the difference in results to be extremely minimal - maybe 5 psi. How many times you crank it over, however, will largely affect comp test results. Most will say crank it till the gauge stops increasing.

Also, if you're at 120 across the board, you will more than likely have either a) very badly worn rings, or b) cracked ring lands in all cylinders and should be experiencing a pretty large drop in power/acceleration. For a car with that many miles, Id say you'd be OK in the 155-165 range, but anything less typically indicates a problem.

only 4 times.... go rent urself a tool. Let the car warm up fully. Disconnect the fuel. Crank it 8-12 times. Full Throttle. If u haven't noticed a decent loss in power throughout the miles. Ur motor should still be fine!
