copper exhaust gasket? no...
Just a little heads up, the stock exhaust gasket is pretty. good, lol. after i bought my headers i bought a copper exhaust gasket

From dezod. now nothing against dezod i like their stuff, seriously, but this gasket is poo. it didnt work past day 1. and leaked like crazy. Yes the bolts/nuts whatever on the exhaust were tightened to spec. it just doesnt have any crushing edge to seal against your engine / header. maby im missing something, but here are some pics. after about a month or 2 i bought another stock one and havent had a single leak. So unless theres something im just not getting, which is possible im new to working on cars, i wouldnt recommend this gasket. just wanting to save anyone else out there whos thinking of buying a new gasket some time and money. Again i really am not hating on Dezod i shop on their site a lot, hence i bought their gasket.

Uh-oh, I just ordered that same gasket and I was planning on installing it with my DC headers........ bump for anyone elses opinion on this.....
Is this a crappy part or did our buddy Laminate just get a lemon. It maybe $46 down the drain, but that's ok if it keeps me from installing a dud. Somebody see if they can get Paul at Dezod's opinion on this plz!

anyone else have any simular fail stories? or maby someone has a success story with this gasket they could share and maby shed some light on the problem? had to believe nobody else has this popular gasket
It leaked bad my engine was covered in black soot from the leaking exhaust.

heard sum of the turbo guys were having problem with this too, IDK why u guys were buying this in the first place u don't need it, even the stock one u had on there is good, I was gonna use it but megan sends u one with there kit that's pretty good

my old oem one after i took off my stock headers were kinda rusty and stuff so i wanted a new one, plus it was already used i wanted to make sure it was sealed perfect so i was just gonna buy a new gasket. didnt plan on buyin 2 new gaskets tho lol.

You're not supposed to reuse a gasket like that regardless of how it looks...I bought a new gasket when I got my header but I bought an OEM gasket from the dealer and it cost about the same.

if your using stock studs, most likely too thick of a gasket to double up, pretty thick even for stock studs. if you got the dezod ones or ones from a local machine shop that are longer it would fit. i never heard of doubling up gaskets tho so i have no clue if it would work. id assume same probem, since theres no crush rings around the ports.
another idea maby is to take the oem gasket, which as we know is two thin sheets of steel with crush rings around the ports, and split them apart and put the copper gasket in between them, that way it would crush seal on the engine and headers and then have added support with the copper in the middle, and have the expansion properties as well so when you started up your engine as it heated the copper would expand and further increase the seal. sounds decent in theory but who knows haha. sounds like a lot could go wrong too.

Well personally I think he should try running just the copper gasket..if his has the same problems as yours then maybe report it to dezod to see if they have had any other issues with this product. Because if you get 2 bad ones in a row chances are it's just a bad product altogether.

You should not reuse any gaskets of type regardless of how well or poor they look. You may also want to use some high temp RTV around the ports of the manifold flange to help make a perfect seal.

nobody is reusing any gaskets, i just stated that the reason i bought the copper gasket was because i didnt want to reuse my gasket because it was used, just saying to clear that up. and i think it should have a note on your website suggesting to use high temp rtv or it will leak bad.

For those with leaking gaskets, are you torqueing the bolts down in the proper order? If not, the gasket may be warping and that will give a bad seal. Not sure on the 2AZ, but on the 1NZ engine start with the center bolt and work your way out when torqueing to spec. When in doubt, like Dezod said, use Ultra Copper high temp sealant.
Copper gaskets don't work like steel. There is no crush ring, but it is malleable, so if you start with pressure in the middle and work your way out evenly on both sides, the gasket will flow and fill in any gaps.

The exhaust manifold must be torqued down to spec starting from the center outward.
