Default Could This be the Problem with Raspy Headers?

I was loking at the stock s-pipe and saw this screwed holder(whatever it is) on the s-pipe and that might be the thing making it a A/M header rasp? Could that be hitting the s-pipe during hard acceleration?

I have an Injen CAI and Megan(no cat) Header with stock exhaust. with somewhat annoying rasp.

or is it something else?

Just Wondering,

It's pretty much standard with any aftermarket header unless you put in a resonator or two in the midpipe.

that depends on if the rasp you have currently is really bothering you or not, if so then get the resonator. However you will get no power increase. If not the s-pipe will give you a lil more noise/rasp but also slightly more power.....gotta weigh your own pro's and cons and priorities

Tcing_U just do a search for "resonator" to see what it looks like. You can get one at your local muffler shop and the prices vary on brand and size you get. Some opt for 2 small resonators some get one huge one......

if it is the case or isnt the case ... the heat shields are HORRIBLE. I had to take the back of my exhaust off and heat shield .... then i had to take a rubber hammer and beatup the shield till I moved 1/3 inch. If the heat shield is or isnt your exact problem ..... it sure can be part of it. If it moves 1/2 inch in the wrong direction your exhaust will eventually bang into it. I looked at my draxas exhaust at idle and it moves about 1/4 inch ...meaning ... due to the .5 larger pipe and the darn shield so close ... you pretty much have no room for the tin like shield. Remember people - if you are going to install an exhaust ... before your put the end pipes on ...i would take the shields off and hammer them in the middle where the pipe will be closest.

Looks like this

but which size should I go for? 4inch round or the 6inch like the one on the picture? and would the length matter? I read some that atr 20-30" what advantage does one have over the other?

$50 to get rid of any kind of rasp sound is money well spent imo.

well, make sure you get a perforated muffler..not a louvered muffler. that will just kill what you did for your performance gains, so get a perforated core...and make sure its a magnaflow, dont get a no name POS

rasp is actually from the runners vibrating against each other when the car is driving.

I disagree, After adding a resonator I have no rasp. I tried the heat wrap between the runners approach before the resonator and it made no difference whatsoever.

again, resonators will kill the rasp when the sound flows through and ends out at the exhaust tip.

i have also tried the header ALONE and it has tone teh rasp down by A LOT. but the wrap... it gets VERY thin when dry and heated up so its really NOT ENOUGH to kill the rasp.

im not sayin the resonators dont work because they DO work.

i have injen intake and exhaust. i am planning to get the mmw headers later.

if my noob brain got it right, my currently deep exhaust sound will sound raspy (read as my tC will sound like a rice civic) once i replace the stock header, without putting a resonator? but if i put a resonator, i lose power - power as in low-end, mid-range, or high end?
