Default CV Boots

Sorry guys, the search engine is not the best when im in a hurry to finish hw and sleep for work 2mrw haha

My question is, the passenger inner cv boot is seeping grease out on the side closest to the rotor, so far only less than a pea size came out...dealer wants 55 to look to see if its under warranty and 285 to replace just the boot.

I'm at 53K would this even fall under power train? or are they trying to charge me to waste my time? the only mod i have is the H-tech springs which has almost the same drop as the TRD's, if they deny it could i argue that the springs are almost identical to the TRDs?

I'm wondering because a shop could change both the boots for about 80 bucks, if i goto Toyota i lose 55 bucks and add another 80 to change it

A pea sized amount has come out? Use one of those pipe clamps on the end of the boot and forget about it...

i've got the same problem and i talked to the service advisor and he told me that the car has to be on stock springs or TRD, doesn't matter if i have h-techs that aren't too low. it's just not a part that is sold at any toyota dealer ship.

dpt852- i was told to do that but since the rain finally went away out here i'm socal i'm gonna try that and hopefully it stops leaking

Thanks man, just what i was looking for...yea the leak isn't too bad yet but it is oily and a little bit seeped out.

dpt852- I'm gonna get a 1 1/2" clamp from home depot hopefully they have a non corroding one. do i just cut the old one off and clamp this on on until its snug? or tighten a little past that? also there are grooves along the axle is the boot supposed to cover up the that point?

Mine have been like that for about 2 years now, and they are still working fine, no noises, but I'm deff. gonna have to replace them this year for sure, good luck with your problem.

While changing the oil, I noticed mine was slit whole way around. Then saw the heat shield from above was bent down, rubbing on it. THAT was the "wear/cutting" force. Bummer.
Like GWTC ^, its been like that for a year or more. That's how long I've noticed the smell (burnt grease). I've heard/read its cheaper to replace the whole axle, than to rebuild, or replace, the boot cover itself. Either way, not looking forward to it.......but, it needs to be done (sigh)
