Default DIY HHO generator...

I was watching one of these new, hip, green planet, use-your-jeans-for-insulating-your-house tv shows today and they were installing an HHO generator on a Paul Frank tour bus. The claim is that one of these generators can improve gas mileage by up to 40%. So I've been googling for the past couple of hours doing research on this subject. I even searched here on SL and found a few posts but nothing substantial, mainly just ridiculing. Anyway, I know with gas prices as high as they are, most of us would be willing to try anything to boost mileage a bit. I found a DIY and it seems fairly easy to build, I'm gonna give it a try this weekend.

Here's the link to the DIY if you're interested.

My question is, has anyone tried it? If so, is there any noticeable benefit? I have heard that it is good for carburetted engines but that it wont work so well with fuel injected engines due to O2, MAF, AFR etc. sensors getting false readings and in turn the ECU makes the engine run rich negating any if not all the "HHO" gas being produced.

Here's a youtube video of a guy running his set-up (very jerry-rigged, but you get the idea) on a toyota solara. I noticed that the engine compartment is almost identical to the tc's.

If anyone has any beneficial info on this it would help a lot. Like I said, I already read through all the jokes and nonsense on the other posts. I'm looking for constructive input.

Will I be spinning my wheels trying to make this work?

I was looking at getting an old xB and doing this. There was some discussion floating around about it on another thread somewhere, but it definitely works. PM Winter about it (or maybe he'll come in here and give his two cents); he's who I was talking to about it, and seems like he knows his stuff.

ur right about the 02 sensor realizing that the engine is running lean so the ECU will in turn compensate for the leanness and add more gas. so people use EIFE devices to offset the 02 sensor

You're not going to see a surge of information on this forum, unfortunately. The googles are going to be more of a friend to you.
