Default The Doc's Homebrew GhettoFab Engine Damper

Total cost for the project: $0. All recycled parts, mostly from scrap steel.

Review of the results: Bueno!!

Bend some steel to fit, a cut here, a cut there, and of course a Fox Vanilla Float rear shock from an MTB. Adjustable preload air and elastomer shock. I have it preloaded with 100psi, and think it could stand to have a bit more before vibrations would get annoying.

I'll pay for you to cut the steel and give me whatever else I need and I can just buy the shock.

great job doc. 2 thumbs up. Also as a side note, I think you have a little to much time on your hands. <--not insulting. But damm those rear shocks are expensive. Maybe the tc people should get the this one.

I doubt anyone could price under 100. A decent used air shock is at least $150 by itself. If you could find just a cheap coil shock with damping and remove the coil spring, then that may be a little more economical, and practical. There is no way an engine damper needs that level of adjustment. But it still rules just because it does.

at least, my stratos xc pro was around $350. MTB shocks are very nice pieces, compairable to any high end shock for cars of motorcycles.

1. You have to be a Vendor on this forum to sell your products here.
2. Thats an Air Shock which will blow out.

If it was that easy to design a product like that everyone would do it.
Whats going to happen if something goes wrong with this product?
Will he stand behind it and fix the problem and pay for repairs?
Remember this is a Guy out of his HOME.

Something goes wrong, your UP the ISH Creek.

Doc, props for DIY.

Kinda curious why a few of my posts on SL were deleted all day? Any moderator care to explain why? I've said a few things on different threads including this one, nothing negative.

okay clarified. i had to take care of, split, and edit some posts here. ill PM you joe to tell you more.

MMW, nice job on pointing that out, but this post was to show off his engine damper. not to sell things. not ONCE did he say hes selling these.

just because people may DIY rather than buy from you is no reason to attack his design IMO. if its so bad, why do you feel threatened enough to even respond?
MMW, PM me if you have any more questions

He never mentioned anything about selling so this post is fine in my book!

Any problems PM me. further posts dealing with MMW and the competition will be deleted after this. stay on topic here of the Dr. DIY mod. MMW can have their own thread in sponsored sales for their own stuff.

thanks
scott
