Default Drive Belt Replacement

Was reading on another thread about how the tensioner bolt just broke trying to replace the drive belt.

Have a lot of tc owners had this problem or just not using the correct tool to release the tensioner? let me know..

I put a light weight crank pulley on my tc probably 2 years ago... I don't remember for sure but I'm pretty sure you don't have to remove any bolts to get the drive belt on and off?

The bolt I'm referring to is the one that releases the tension on the belt (from the tensioner). If the tension isn't gone I think it would be very difficult to remove the drive belt without ripping apart the drivebelt. That's the bolt I was talking about.

The part is molded onto the tensioner assembly, to remove the belt get a breaker bar and a 19mm socket and gently pry foward to release the tension if u go to far or pry to hard the piece can break off then u will have to replace the whole part

well if you try to torque it in the typical fashion to remove a bolt, then yes you will break it. the bolt is welded to the 'pulley' and is a left-hand thread so you have to put torque clockwise on it to remove the serpentine belt. it's not hard to max it out in the loose position, so don't try and go farther or you will break it.

*edit* clockwise looking at it from the passenger side

i wouldn't replace the tens. if it works fine. usually it breaks because people over torque it. just release the tension slowly until it stops (and don't jerk it).

TcPrincess: "...just release the tension slowly until it stops (and don't jerk it)."

That goes against everything I believe in, not sure if I'll be able to follow that advice.
